I've belonged to my club for around 12 years, and I don't think I've ever seen someone else with a traditional muzzleloader.

Funny looks all around when I go from my Para FAL, to a flintlock rifle or pistol.

pheenix, I can relate to your story. I belong to a Conservation Club that is primarily for shooting. There a total of seven ranges and a shotgun range with three clay bird throwers. There are four ranges where you can shoot want you want, except 50bmg. Two ranges are 50yds and two are 25th. I always go to the last 50yd range through the week to avoid any crowd. With maybe 4 or 5 shooters spread out, you’re mostly by yourself. All ML’s are percussion. Invariably after a couple of BOOMS, another shooter will come by to see what is going on. Generally I offer to let them shoot one of whatever I brought. Occasionally they even ask to load one, under my close supervision. The only complaint I get is from my regular shooting buddy that brings about a dozen semi-autos. He doesn’t like the smell, lol. What I like is the amazing look and questions you get when you bring out the 54 & 58 calibers. I offer to help them if they are interested in starting this addiction but I have not been asked to help anyone as yet. Thanks pheenix & Bighorserider for sharing.
I think the curiosity factor brings folks to a ML shooter. However, the 'newer is better syndrome' that permeates our society is deeply ingrained. I have heard people walk away asking each other "why would anybody want to mess with those silly old guns?" History has little place in the life of most here. If you want to prove that, just ask what year Mr. Lincoln was assassinated. Probably more than half cannot even come close. Just my 1 1/2 cents worth.. Dale

Summer 1971 I was at the range I had just joined, an older gent was the only one there. He was shooting a rifled musket and a 36 Navy revolver. Talking with him he asked if I would like to try them. Of course, I did. That action by him started my shooting ML's

When at the range since any interested young guy or gal gets asked the same would you like to try them? Paying back the gent that let me as I never saw him at the range again, but he sure made an impression on me.

Uh, 1492, just before the Battle of Hastings and Napoleon's invasion? ;)

There is such a large contingent of BP shooters of all kinds in our club that they have an entire day set aside for BP only. Mind you, you can still shoot BP any other time, too. :)

Several decades ago I was looking though the Sunday paper for a new home for my daugher and myself. Nuttin there, so I went for the personals :-O

I found an ad that said she was 40 and wanted to learn how to shoot BP. I looked over at my 1803 Harpers Ferry and said, "Ill have that".
Our first date was at a gun club near FT Lewis. We showed up, and there where 2 army dudes and an Asian chick in a camo bikini top and short shorts.

My date loaded up the 54, sat down and took aim. When she touched it off all of them hit the deck. Belly down hands over their heads. Im laughing my donkey off, my date stands and starts reloading not knowing what just happened.

Il never forget those Rambos and GI Jane. They packed up and left.

We went to rondies for 6 years, and when she left, she took that cursed rifle with her.
