Who'd Pietta make these for?

Picked up this brass framed 60 Army with a 1994 date code a few months back, basically as a parts gun for another project on a steel framed gun of the same vintage, as I don't usually fool with brassers that aren't a reasonably authentic copy of a particular Confederate sidearm. It has gray laminated grips, which I've never seen before, on a Navy grip frame, which also has the "Pietta tail" that was common until just a few years ago...Anyone know if these were made for any particular retailer?

I've seen steel frame 1851 Navies in polished steel with those same grips

If I had to guess. Someone swapped grip frames because those are Navy grips, not Army sized.

It could very well have been a batch made for Taylor's or some such but usually Brassers don't have custom grips

It was a fantasy gun and I seem to remember it being available from several retailers. The fact it has Navy grips on an Army means nothing, it's not the first time that's been done. Or maybe it's an Army barrel on a .44 "Navy". If I were really serious about finding an importer for these I would start my search with Traditions.

I have the same grips that came on an ASM .44 51 Navy.

Authentic or not I really like it. I like you don't care much for the brass frames unless it's a Confederate clone but yours is nicely done and I think the gray color in the grips compliments the brass frame nicely.

Thanks for the replies, I figured that it was a version that most likely came in a clamshell package originally, and that's a good indication that Tradions was somehow involved. Like I said, I originally purchased it for the pre MIM Pietta internals...But, it's been kind of growing on me and will likely stay as is in the percussion revolver trove for now.
