I didn't know there was meat in mince meat.
Hog Maw- Pennsylvania Dutch thing.
Haggis- eat that in January (26th?) Robert Burns Day. The Haggis you eat with mashed rutabaga and mashed potato. A shot of Scotch washes it all down.
Stock- put it in ice cube tray so I have little individual cubes. Do the same thing with green salsa/chili

I believe I will create a "HOLIDAY TRADITIONS IN AMERICA" page for my website.
Very interesting guys....what else?? I mean we have cultures from Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, France, etc.

Haggis ain't got no pig stomach. Made with sheep called mutton stomach stuffed with the innards I throw out when butchering any big animal. I know my father-in-law dragged me to every Scottish/Orangeman feast for 10 years. as he was, I guess the grand Puba/dragon of the brotherhood. MIL was the grand Matron.

I lived through it only by the toast of single malt Highland distilled Scotch. Some of the feasts were worse Fish & Brews comes to mind.

I was a Mason, and the wife was an Eastern Star member But never went the Orangeman route of social society. We both grew up in a church of Newfies.

Read the post, no one said haggis was made with a hog paunch, said think haggis in refrence to the hog maw.

The one thanksgiving I'll never forget, happened in a dar off place of dark green jungles, our team was so with some little people, who had once worked with American troops in WW2,
They made a feast for us of boiled game cock, buffalo tongues bits, and left over C- rats HAM and MOTHERs!! We laughed and hugged all and thanked the big spirit upstairs for living to see the sunrise, and have "family", friends such as these.

Hope y'all say a little prayer this one coming up for those who wear the uniform no matter what color

We often get rotisserie chickens from a local place for $4.99. it is nearly impossible to buy a raw chicken and roast it for that price. I strip the bulk of the meat from the skeleton and throw the bones, wings, necks etc in a pot of water and simmer them for 20 mins perhaps 3 times over a days time. When cool I pick the bones out by hand and add leftover rice, potatoes, oatmeal, even carrots and simmer it again. Homemade dog food. The dogs love it.
Wish I could shop there!! Here those birds are $8.49 each warm and $7.99 cold.

When we were younger a group of us used to go for a short hike or walk after eating , say a mile or so. I don't think some of us could handle it now. There's a few in the crowd that seems to have gotten older.

That's when I learned to not ask what you're eating. If you could get it down, shut up and eat
🤔:)

we all dial our radios in to 93.3 WDNS to listen to Alice's Restaurant which has been an old tradition for many years
Yup. Not just tradition here,,, part of family heritage. Mom's family os from the area, some family knows, or knew (many are no longer with us) some of the key players. Have a distant relative who is in one of the dort flat track racing scenes at the beginning of the movie that goes with the song. (Many folks don't know there is an Alice's Restaurant movie)
Used to have a brief visit with Alice at her place on Cape Cod each summer, don't get up that far into town anymore during my brief vacation.

"I didn't get nothin',, had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage."

Anyone ever figured out exactly what's in a mince meat pie?
Depends. There is mincemeat and faux-mincemeat. Both have a lot of spices. Both usually have apples, raisins, and often green tomatoes, and suet. My friend's wife makes one with venison that is out of this world.
My mom's family being long time old Berkshire yankees made it both real and faux. After grampie's heart attack gram only made faux,,, still just as tasty.

Hopefully those came out in the correct order. I did the best I could with screenshots of the photos of old recipes.

I've used hog stomach for haggis because I couldn't find a sheep stomach. Was "sort of okay".
THANKSGIVING- stuffing in the bird or "stove top"?
