The popcorn. I think after the meal with the pilgrims the invited NDNs wanted to make "popcorn" They put dried corn in an iron pot and the pilgrims were worried the pot would crack if "dry". In any event, now that I'm into all this stuff, I think it was parched corn rather than popcorn.
 
The only way I would eat clams or oysters was in the form of Clams Casino & Oysters Rockefeller. Did try a raw oyster once on a dare, like swallowing a massive wad of snot, I turned green at the gills and almost blew it all back up. Never again.
We got to oyster festivals 2 x a year. I don't like them fried or raw, but I can eat a few dozen steamed. Some restaurants in lower Delmarva serve broiled oysters. Took a lot of urging to get the current Mrs. to try them, and she loves them. Not sure of the exact recipe, but a raw oyster on a half sell is placed on a broiler pan and some seasoned butter is placed on each oyster and then broiled in the oven. The absolute best way to have them. There also differences in oysters depending on where they are grown. Chesapeake bay oysters vary a lot due to how far from the ocean they grow. And if you get them from the Virginia ocean coast, (what are called "salt oysters) those are the best. There was a civil war skirmish along a creek that ran through a salt march near Wallops Island, VA. A guy I met kept telling his wife he was going out to study the skirmish site and found several dozen oysters each time he went. . He was actually rustling oysters from a leased oyster bed. Don't know that he was ever caught.

Nothing worse than an oyster rustler! Or is there?!
 
Thanksgiving is not about what food you serve. Thanksgiving is about spending time with friends and/or loved ones. It is also about giving thanks to the good Lord for the blessings He has bestowed upon us. ---- Try to remember this.
 
My wife is an excellent cook and baker! Apple pie, pumpkin pie, turkey, giblit gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, green beans, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, biscuits, croissants, home made bread.
BTW: I noticed in this day and age, does anyone else have a wife that actually cooks and bakes???

I've been told that it's against Louisiana law not to eat raw oysters. So being law abiding I chug them down. ;)
