mixing different size shot for hunting loads. Will be putting together a .58 Kibler smoothie here in a few weeks and want to get some ideas on hunting loads. Mainly thinking turkeys here and the barrel will be jug choked. Are we thinking 5’s & 7’s? 4’s and 8’s? I’m anticipating making some premade paper shot cup loads so I can reload ‘quickly’ if need be. Will also experiment sky chief, corn meal, etc.

I have a coffee can with an equal mix of #6 and 7.5s. That’s pretty much all I use. I use dime coin wrappers for carrying shot. Fold and glue one end. Pour in measured shot and fold and glue the other end. Elmers is your friend. I bite the end off the coin wrapper, dump the shot and toss the wrapper.

Sure you don't want a smoothbore rather than a smooth rifle? If shot is all you'll shoot plus with the jug choke round ball accuracy may suffer. The smooth rifle will be heavier than an actual smoothbore.
I’m young and dumb enough to not care about 8.5 lbs vs 7. I also like the look of the longer rifle. As for shooting round balls, I have a .58 rifle that gets me 1.5” groups at 50 yards and I’m very happy with that.

I guess if push comes to shove, I’ll just get another rifle! What’s the wife going to do? Make me sleep with the dogs (again)!?!?

I think it is @Eric Krewson that had a smoothbore jug choked and still did not have good patterns,,, Skychief load in the jig choke gave him excellent patterns.
All jugs aren't created equal. It all depends on who cuts it in and if they know what they are doing. All the jugs I have had put into fowling guns work perfectly.
