Out and about today checking out gun stores. Came across a CVA Hawken in 50 cal flint lock. Appears to be unfired though all the brass could use a good polish. Bore looks new.

They're asking $219 for it. Is it worth it?

What Model? If its a Mountain rifle Id be there asap with cash. MANY MANY models but CVA made some absolute tack driver barrels. I have a Hawkin cap lock and it is my most accurate rifle. Have the flint too but need sites to shoot it. Start any loads at about 55-60 and up slowly and these will amaze ya!

More info and then PICTURES! We like pictures...

Me too ... although I'd then flip it for a $$ PROFIT!
I'm not directing this at you personally, but this kind of attitude is why it's hard to have sympathy for guys complaining when gun shows or gun shops have things priced high.

A fair deal for some is buying something for less than what it's worth and selling it for more. That attitude is what drives up the second hand market and in the end costs everyone more.

A rifle or any thing else for that matter is worth what you are willing to pay! Just remember the story of Ben Franklin and his tin whistle. He was very happy with it until his brother told him he paid too much for it!

Not sure of the specific model. The store tag on it says it's a Hawken and that's it. The store scoped the barrel for me and it is factory clean. The lock and all related components are also clean and appear unused. The brass is tarnished and from what I could tell, that's it. I get the impression it was a decorative display queen somewhere.

I'll head back on Friday and see what I can do.

If it is the CVA Hawken model I'd get it at that price. I actually like the Hawken better than the earlier Mountain rifle.

Brass tarnishes, that's why they invented 'Mothers'. I rather like the look of used brass, though. Heaven knows, after a few shots with the Holy Black, it's going to go back to tarnished anyhow.
