What's the plan for wood finish? It looks amazing.

My plan is to scrape the wood to remove what little machining marks are present. Then aqua fortis, stain if/as needed and oil to finish.

I want to include some simple carving…. We will have to see if I remain brave enough to actually do this.

As for metal finishes, the brass will get polished then oxidized a bit to remove shine and the barrel I plan to go for a french gray.

Bnew,
I am jealous! I have a .54 coming with a fancy sugar maple stock. I am number 20 on the list so maybe a nice Christmas present is on the way to me. Can't wait to see how yours comes out. That is impressive that it comes pretty much assembled, just needing finishing. You will have to add some wood carving to make it your rifle, not just another woods runner kit. Use a little bone black to antique the stock. It would go great with the French Gray metal finish.

Couple of questions, who makes the barrel and I'm guessing this stock has more of a French influence than what we see coming out of the early Germanic makers? Similar to the Faber rifle (Number 117 in RCA)??

Take your time, it really doesn’t need to be finished in a day or two. I want to see it in its full glory. He He…..

I've been watching to see who receives a Woodsrunner first or at least posts about it. Hope there isn't a mad rush to be first to post new pics of a finished rifle just to be first though. Things done or made in haste sometimes produces regrets, i.e. "Wish I had done this or hadn't done that"! Just saying! :)

Great pics from the OP. Looking forward to watching the new Woodsrunner Rifles morph from the box to finished rifles in the coming months.
I’m in the early shipping I hope. I’m having another rotator cuff surgery in two weeks. Guess I’ll have a lot of one hand fondling time for a couple of months.

Looks like it will be a great rifle. Just curious as a newbie here, roughly how long is turn around from order to receiving it? I can imagine it varies on model, wood etc. just trying to learn more as I look into the flintlock market.

I've had rotator cuf surgery on both of my shoulders. After the first 2-3 weeks, you'll likely be able to work on your rifle without the sling on for a couple of hours starting out, then more so.

I had my left shoulder surgery September 16. I can do what I want with not much pain but don’t know if I’m doing any damage trying to deer hunt with one of my .54 rifles. I hope when I receive my Woodsrunner I can slowly get it put together.

I ordered a Woods Runner a couple of weeks ago and they told me end of March or the first of April. A lot of the time frame depends on the type of wood you want with the kit. It seems the extra fancy maple takes a while to get.

As long as it's only rotator cuff surgery that sounds good. I had both shoulders operated on over 20 years ago and that was over a two year period. Rotator cuff, yes, but there was much, much more damage that required 6 months of PT and another 6 months to heal; hence the two years. I only got around 75% to 80% use back and it's still very limiting after all that time. So best of luck and the recuperation period sounds about right for what you are having done.
