New York and New Jersey are very Anti-2nd Amendment--Anti American.
Do not take chances. These States believe that the Crooks should have the guns.
In truth, the 2nd Amendment plainly outlaws all gun control. People tolerate
the Controls, but by plain text of the Constitution the controls are illegal.
Go read the Second Amendment. Sure the mentally ill cannot have any
deadly weapons and those laws stand. The Second Amendment also
guarantees the right of self defense. It is a basic human right.

Lots of confusion. Lately I have been removing the lock or the barrel if it’s a keyed type and shipping separately as “parts”…

With NY laws changing almost minute by minute you need to check with your local gun stores on what the laws are. I know in NJ everything has to be registered with the state. People have gotten into big trouble buying antique muzzleloaders and not having them registered with the state.

" NY Penal Law § 265.00(3). An "antique firearm" is defined as any unloaded muzzle-loading pistol or revolver with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system, or a pistol or revolver that uses fixed cartridges that are no longer available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade. NY Penal Law § 265.00(14). A license is not required to possess, collect or carry an unloaded antique firearm."
So... what does it become when you load it?

As a NYS resident I can tell you that muzzle loaders have been classified as firearms under the September 1st regulations.
Yes!!!!

The New York Law:

"amended to read as follows: 41 11. "Rifle" means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and 42 intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and 43 made or remade to use the energy of the explosive [in a fixed metallic 44 cartridge] to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for 45 each single pull of the trigger using either: (a) fixed metallic 46 cartridge; or (b) each projectile and explosive charge are loaded indi- 47 vidually for each shot discharged. In addition to common, modern usage, 48 rifles include those using obsolete ammunition not commonly available in 49 commercial trade, or that load through the muzzle and fire a single 50 projectile with each discharge, or loading, including muzzle loading 51 rifles, flintlock rifles, and black powder rifles. 52 12.

"Shotgun" means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, 53 and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned 54 and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive [in a fixed shot- 55 gun shell] to fire through a smooth or rifled bore either a number of 56 ball shot or a single projectile for each single pull of the trigger S. 1 21 1 using either: (a) a fixed shotgun shell; or (b) a projectile or number 2 of ball shot and explosive charge are loaded individually for each shot 3 discharged. In addition to common, modern usage, shotguns include those 4 using obsolete ammunition not commonly available in commercial trade, or 5 that load through the muzzle and fires ball shot with each discharge, or 6 loading, including muzzle loading shotguns, flintlock shotguns, and 7 black powder shotguns."

My purchase was after September 1. Being a kit might be different.

Also I have purchased powder and no background check was required, yet background check is required for reloading supplies, this was at BassPro. I have not bought caps since that time, because they are constantly out of stock!

All in all it is a mess and none of us regular people know what is and is not allowed. Real good law there!
Also need to be careful not to confuse company policy with state law. Bass pro may be overly cautious and impose rules on buyers that are not specified in law.

this has nothing to do with the safe act.. it is new laws passed because she lost the fight about the n.y.c. 100 year old [ illegal] carry laws so she did everything she could to make every law abiding gun owner miserable... get out and vote.. or it WILL get worse . new york is a great sportsmans state we should be able to bet this.

Governments, law agencies, no longer pass laws to deter criminals!! These laws are politically motivated laws, they are not laws involved for justice!! So the last word is: if you're a criminal the laws don't apply to you!! THE GOVERNMENTS AND LAW AGENCIES ONLY WANT THE GUNS FROM LAW ABIDING CITIZENS!!!

So I guess we will all become criminals and they won't bother us anymore!

Think history has shown that unreasonable gun laws may generate disrespect for all laws and the governments that attempt to impose them. Some have the concern that draconian edicts are part of destabilizing otherwise stable and strong nations. It is doubly important to understand that those creating such laws also control a media which expounds on how well they are working.

Didn't mean that in a positive way, maybe I should have said governments do whatever they can get away with. Either way, we continue to let them get away with it. I'm as guilty as the next.
Correct TDM. Governments can't do anything the people don't let them due. The citizens of any Country get exactly what they vote for! When we keep letting corruption take place, we get what we deserve....

Unfortunately, that policy will not work. Big Brother fears people like us more than they fear guns in our hands. If they ever get their way, they would be happy to round us up and eliminate us from the face of the earth. Ironically, they would use guns to subdue us. This proves that they actually like guns. They just don't want guns in the hands of those they wish to subdue. That was the attitude the Nazi's had against the Jewish people in WWII.

Any opinions on the approximate value of the gun?
That depends on if it's an original (yours looks pretty new), bore condition, AND if it has Civil War provenance. Yes, they were used in the Civil War. Get those answered first and let's revisit the question aside from the commie state karen nonsense.
