Can't help, but must comment: that very long nipple is a very curious thing, indeed.
I also have an AFRICAN pistol that has a very high profile nipples on it. seems that it was not odd back in the day.

Is Rudyard a member of the forum; a gunsmith? I’m new to the forum and don’t recognize many members yet.

Well its like this, down here in the deep Southern land when it comes to ML Gurns ol Rudyard is on par with the Obi Wan Kenobi bloke featured in Star Wars; that said they havent tried to portray him with some mere hollywood BS actor simply because it cant be done !

Welcome to the forum!!
Yes, Dial, Rudyard is a member. from Sheffield England, but many years banished to NZ!
Gunmaker yes, but likes matchlocks the most I think. Made piles of flint guns though.
In Africa he made guns for locals out of drill rod, jam tins and fence posts.

best regards,
Richard.

You failed to mention the many eager young village girls who pawned their families artifacts just so Rudyard never ran short of Black powder.......

Just an FYI in relation to some 1st page responses stating that @Rudyard woud know about this, and that he would "be along."
You can draw a member's attention to a post or topic with the @ symbol attached to there screen name.
When you do this,
@Pukka Bundook @TFoley @toot
The member should get an alert (up at the top of the page where the little bell is) with a message that they were mentioned in a post and when they click on it they will be brought to that post.

They look more like assembly mark never seen which points to replaced or locally made got up gun any sight would be a fixed rear .& likley a kennel shaped front sight . But on a native made gun anything goes still interesting for what it is ,
,Regards to both of you.
Rudyard
No rear site, nor do I see where one was previously attached.

Thank you for the heads up on reaching out to members.

Perhaps Rudyard listens to a voice other than his own. He should listen to what you told him. I also would purchase a copy

Rudyard;
I know how you may write a book of your life. Certainly none of my business, but I believe you have a story to tell that should be passed on to future generations. You could get your daughter, or someone you trust with your story to record your thoughts on a digital hard drive. Make an outline as far back as you can remember, and then speak what your mind tells you about that part of you life; how things came about, and how you ended up where you are today. Once you have completed your stories, based on the outline someone as a "Ghost Writer" could put your words in print for a book. You could retain editing rights on everything. If you believe that perhaps some things are better left out of the story, then leave them out. I am sure as your friend said, there is no one that could tell Rudyard's story better than Rudyard. I'm sure that is not an exact quote, but I think it captures the intent. I mean no intrusion by offering these thoughts. I have written in a computer file almost 10 times that I could have died and was delivered from that fate. I'll bet you have more than that.
As you would say;
Regards,
Stephen Dial Cannon

Dear Stephen I have thought about narrateing then have others write it down but thats a Lot of accounts . Might make Tolstoy's ' War & Peace ' light reading ! I can't say I had too many near death occasion's & did get Malaria in West Africa, Tick bight fever in Natal & Blackwater fever in Kathmandu the useual 'souvenir's' & lots of Delhi bellies & some awfull maladies in Mali Ide NO idea what they where . But my appendix bursting in Invercargill was perhaps the closest run go at permanence . and more than a few hairy climbs & goe,s arounds with' big country' . An Amorous Bull Moose encounter could have gone very wrong but talked him out of it .Then a mid night Bear species unknown but it got as much a fright as I did I expect & I put my hand on a snake in a steep defile not sure who frightened who the most .Then a log in a similar defile was just barely holding it had moved and there was no where to go but back and it just held long enough for me to get down & free of that considerable hazzard , just had Covid . Then one weird occasion when camped in a large cleft near ' Murderers bar on the Homathko river BC I woke with the rifle in my hand (Muzzle loader of course) . Why I did so no idea , but was mayhap haunted or I had dwelt on the history of murdered road builders crew in1864 or so . but like the Bear I just knocked the fire up & went back to sleep, what else to do ?. I have slept in Grave yards I figure' dead men don't bite ' just an expedient port in a storm not far from Karl Marks as it happened ..but Ime getting off topic though I seem by your all good graces to be Thee topic. and at least theres a ML rifle in it ..Again thank you Gentlemen all &
Regards Rudyard
