54 will work for me. Not disagreeing with the 72 cal. I get pretty close to the bears. Both brown and black.
Still need to get a few tools. Also do some more studying. This will be my first build. Other than kits.
I am quite a ways from Delta Junction. I live out on an island in Prince William Sound.Sounds like it should get the job done. I have a daughter and son in law who live near Delta Junction. She was raised in Montana but its gottin two crowded for her

I have shot about a dozen brown bears for work related issues. I don’t fear them ,I respect them. I feel comfortable using a 54 round ball on them at around 50 yards.
And I always carry Rolaids in my pocket so I don’t give them to much heart burn if things go sideways.
I ordered a plain maple. Very happy with the stock!
