So I have decided to make a heavy 54 cal poor boy. I named it Alaskan 54. Made from a Virginia muzzleloader stock for the thickness, it will have a L&R mule ear lock. The barrel is a Colerain 1;56 twist. 36 inch long. No patch box, just a tapered rectangle hole. Buttplate will be a crescent steel plate tacked in place. All iron furniture. Simple, inexpensive, heavy for rugged bear hunting for here in Alaska.😁

Here is the stock.

.54 round ball-brown bear, don't get swallowed whole (shades of Quint in Jaws).
I have shot about a dozen brown bears for work related issues. I don’t fear them ,I respect them. I feel comfortable using a 54 round ball on them at around 50 yards. 😁 And I always carry Rolaids in my pocket so I don’t give them to much heart burn if things go sideways.

Haha rolaids!

What do you do for work?

I'd probably have to use a hardened ball and very heavy powder charge to make myself comfortable shooting a brown bear with a muzzleloader.
