Two weeks till the opener. I’ve spent the last few days pouring over maps and making plans. Think I’m going to use my canoe to access some new spots. Chomping at the bit here, guys!
I know the feeling...of chomping at the bit...I am waiting on it too. This weekend being youth season and all I will be getting the smoke pole out to do a little sighting in... Looks like it's all going to be public land hunting this year for me... Probably won't fare out too well but we'll see just time being in the woods will be fine by me

Lakes still pretty high on my end. Full disclosure, I could walk to the one spot but I’d stir up the whole place doing it. I’m hoping the other guys will push them my direction.

My wife and I drove from PA out to Denver and back last month. Most of the Midwest lakes and watercourses were low or totally dry. It must have a big impact on wildlife.

With the climate changing so fast it is difficult to impossible for wildlife to adjust. But as usual the ticks and the various diseases now have the green light.

I am guessing that the deer & hogs have access to a TN Wildlife Resources book. I went out to gather up some more walnuts (piles and piles of them) and pick some last late season cider apples on my farm and in my forest and (4) does were walking a bit of a distance behind me. When I set the apple basket down and walked over to pick up some more piles of walnuts, they were walking up to the basket of apples. No fear, just the munchies. I have seen at least a dozen in past two mornings drinking out of my stream and polishing off the remains of the garden (dry beans, squash etc.) I am guessing that in 7-days I probably won't see that anymore.

I lease out about 25 acres to a neighbor who plants barley for his cousin's microbrewery. After harvest, I stopped counting at 85 turkeys in the field. You could use a ML for them or just walk up and whack them with the stock. There are more every year.

Hogs are thinning out around me. They were bad for several years. I let anyone who wanted to shoot those on my land. Had some affect, as I have only seen about 8 this fall so far and those were pretty small (100-200lbs).

I have never had the chance to hunt with a flintlock and have only shot one on one afternoon (was someone else's). I look forward to trying one for deer. I am shopping for a kit at this time. Sooo much to look at and noodle over. Eyes are NOT really great anymore, which is what is sort of holding me back from it.
I hunt with single shot rifles (Peabody, Sharps, Springfield, Ballard, Winchester Hi-Wall, Remington Rolling Block etc.) I have a good assortment of them but have at least period correct scopes or vernier sights. I don't do well with straight iron sights that come on the flintlock rifles anymore.

My Wife got this from a Friend just outside of Nashville a couple days ago…

Good Luck out there👍

What part of the state are you in? I'm in Giles county and we don't have hogs yet. I hear they are all around us but never have seen one.

Tomorrow morning it begins...🦌.... Tree stand is hung I am willing and ready...now if we can just get the weather to cooperate... Good luck my fellow VOLS... Be safe happy hunting

Can't wait. My blind got crushed by a tree in a storm couple months ago. Started building a new one a few weeks ago using the fallen tree but didn't get it done. Will be out there in a few minutes finishing it up and getting ready for the big day. Here in Pulaski it is supposed to warm up and rain all day. How is the weather in your area looking?
