GOOP Lube

Read a thread here awhile back talking about using GOOP -- the non-gritty variety. I can only find the "New Orange GOOP" and not the original. I remember using as a hand cleaner when younger before Fast Orange came along. SO my question for any GOOP users (GOOPers?) is if the Orange variety performs like the original or is it a "Don't use it" kind of thing...Yhx

The original white GOOP was my all time favorite hand cleaner bar none. I used to fool with cars/engines a lot and the stuff worked great. Never thought about using it as a lube or cleaner for BP but it had the right feel and consistency for it. But I haven’t seen any for sale in years. I’d be wary of the newer stuff.

I bought a can of goop not too ago at Menards. Also, purchased a container of Murphys oil soap. I use both as the good Lord intended and have not yet tried either as patch or bullet lube. Still using an old tin of equal parts Crisco, mutton tallow and bees wax, I made years ago as patch and bullet lube. Add 5oz of bag balm and you have Bob Rollers lube according to the Dixie Gun Works catalog.

Glad to here GOOP is still around. Just not around here. I’ll have to take a look online. It’s good.

Just ordered a couple of tubs. I’ll be be glad to have some again.

I have some Goop I bought about 2 years ago at Food Lion, a NC grocery chain. Plastic tub, same color, same consistency, same ol' aroma! It was a little more expensive than I expected, but not exorbitantly so.

I don't use it for lube, mostly for grease & paint. But I also use it as soon after exposure to poison ivy as possible. If it cuts through oils & gets 'em off your skin, it'll cut through urushiol (the oil in poison ivy people react to).

I have multiple tins of Windini Lube for shootin' (homemade beeswax, lamb tallow & olive oil mix).

Not familiar with GOOP cleaner. The GOOP product I am familiar with is a very tough glue material used for fixing shoes and boots. Wouldn't wanna use that in my rifle gun.

Just a tip, if you ever got suckered into using moly in a modern rifle. Goop is the only cleaner I found to reliably remove moly from the bore.

Think you mixing up with Shoe Goo. Goop was/is a waterless handcleaner

I have used waterless hand cleaner. I got it in a tube. I injected in the cushion section of shotshell wads and used them in a ML shotgun. IT kept the fouling very wet. No cleaning throughout the day was needed. End of day clean up was a snap. There was no plastic buildup.

Yup! I stand corrected. Was at Menards today for some JB Weld and right next to the ShooGoo was a tube of GOOP --
Some kind of clear marine sealant/adhesive. I wonder how they do not get in trouble with name same as GOOP the waterless hand cleaner...

Hard to maintain trust in anything these days.

Lee Shaver had a story about using goop or gojo as a patch lube in the Single Shot Exchange. He also talked about Edge Lube, made by Tapmatic (folks that make LPS products) as a grease groove lube. Good info.

When I first saw the conversation about Goop the silicone product similar to caulking is what came to mind for me also ive never saw the Goop cleaning product myself but never actually looked for it either i wasn't aware that it was available

That would not be a mistake anyone would want to make…yikes! I can only imagine what a mess you would have gluing a patched round ball into your barrel

Yes sir that would definitely be a mess for sure

The original GOOP is such a good hand cleaner I’ll most likely keep mine for that purpose. But maybe try a few patches just to see how it does.
