Congrats on a beautiful rifle. I am partial to the slightly darker color, but it is still gorgeous. What caliber is she?

More progress.
I opted for the aniline dyes for the stock. Tannic acid is more traditional, but I was looking for a lighter look. This is my first attempt at inletting and relief carving as well. Curly maple is hard, hard. Tools cannot be too sharp. I left the barrel in the white, even polished it a bit. My next big learning curve will be installing and engraving a hunter’s star. But first I want to take her to the range to see what I can do with this fine long gun. I have some 2F and 3F Pyrodex, but no 4F to prime. So I have ordered real black powder in all 3 grades, it seems the right propellant for this 1760 style firearm. If I can shoot a respectable group, I’ll post it as well
thanks for looking

That is a different finish from the reddish most people do. It really stands out. I like it!!

After my butchery (carving attempts) on my Traditions kit, I had listed my carving chisels on Craigs List. After seeing your work, I pulled the listing, and will endeavor to get better at sharpening my chisels and using them (I spend more time sharpening than I do carving). Thank you for the inspiration!

That rifle looks great Shadowalker, I completed a .58 Colonial a few months ago and it's super accurate. I'm using 85 gr. fff in the barrel and the pan and it fires great. Muzzleloader season starts Dec. 3rd. where I'm at in the Fl. panhandle and I'm hoping to take a deer with it.
I see you bought their case too, I probably have a dozen gun cases but when I bought theirs and opened it I was kind of floored by the tapestry looking interior, nice touch for a case for a fine rifle.

Bill Kilgore, I would be at the range this weekend, but I’m spending time with the prettiest, smartest, and most dear granddaughter on the planet! Period!
Bladegrinder, I was wondering what grade F2, F3, and grain count, 70, 80 or something else will work best! I plan on using black powder for both main charge and 4F for the primer charge.
Look for some embarrassing groups in a week or so! I am sure if my Colonial were clamped in a vise, she could would make tight, sweet groups out to 100 yards. But with me at the wheel, all bets are off. I gotta go kiss a baby right now! 😍
