So I was wondering if there are any clubs in New Hampshire local to or within a hour or two of Cheshire County. I purchased a home about 30 minutes North of Keene a few years ago and was thinking I’d retire there. Not sure the wife is to crazy about that but that’s another story. I would like to meet up occasionally with others that likes BP flintlocks and all. I mostly shoot by myself or with my son but we’re on different frequencies and would like to learn and share with others. Problem is despite it being a Second Amendment state I don’t see any activity with regards to Flintlocks or BP. There’s one big club in Keene where I guess some may shoot BP amongst 99 percent unmentionables but with the stupid lock down and still working I never bothered to sign up. I was looking at the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association’s website yesterday looking to see what clubs are in the state; not one! How is this possible with the states French and Indian War and Revolutionary War history? Does anyone know of any small clubs or group that play with Flintlocks in the state better yet the area that would be willing to have a NYer shoot with them. I can understand there concerns with that but I can assure them I am not one of those; LOL.

The wife and I have been looking for property up there for a couple years now. Hopefully we'll find the right place soon.
Will be watching this thread for sure.

I just asked a friend to reply here, as he lives near Keene and is very active in BP. He was also a member of the NH MZL Team that just took 2nd place in the New England flintlock championship shoot.

In the late 80's there were black power shoots all over New England. I would like to get back into shooting black power again but find most all of the events are no longer around. There was an organization, New England Muzzle Loaders, that would list the shoots that were being held for the season. Is the group still around? There were a lot of great people at the shoots, always happy to help someone new like me get started in the sport. Some of the shoots took place at Scarborough, ME, Brookfield, MA, Rochester, NH, Damariscotta, ME and more. It would be nice to get things going once again.

You are talking about the First Congress of New England shoots; Org has been defuncted for more than a decade. In them was all the NMLRA territorial shoots there was a shoot every weekend somewhere in NE to attended including NY at Fort Ty.

My family and my nephews families attend as many as we could as our kids grew up. As they did grow Ft Ty went bye, bye along with all the old guys running the rest of them. We tried getting interest in our area of NH and failed. Went to others shoots till they dried up.

My family became interested in NFA shooting and went that way. My son shot all the shoots as a teen and decided he does not enjoy ML at all anymore. Now shooting is mostly family affairs on private ranges. My family is in the shooting sports as jobs. For the 15 years I had a shop shooting was not fun anymore. Now I am not in it for money it is becoming fun again.

So it sounds like the sport has seen better days in NH. Well if I get up there permanently my neighbor has shown interest so maybe I can bribe him and his wife to shoot with me occasionally. Not that I was planning on going to every gathering but would have been a nice option.

I understand there’s a club in Keene probably geared towards unmentionables but maybe there some bp there too. Need to find out more about that. Most of shooting that goes on in my area are unmentionables except for me. Maybe if they taught American history in the schools there might be an interest. East east

I am not sure how far south of the Keene area they are, but the Massachusetts clubs of Leominster (shoot this weekend!), Fitchburg and Townsend (a shoot 2-weeks from now) have a very active BP part of their club and one or the other usually has a monthly shoot.

Plus some of them shoot on the third Sunday of the month and anyone is welcome.

New to the forum. I escaped from Taxachusetts 8 years ago and bought a ranch
on 12-1/2 acres in the woods. I built a 25 yard range so I can shoot anytime I
feel like it and not annoy the neighbors because they all shoot too. No club for
me. To political especially the one in my area. This is a great state to live in and
for the man who's wife's not too happy she will like it in time.

As someone stuck south of the border for the foreseeable future, that sounds like a dream!

Where’s is range you mention if you don’t mind. The range in Keene is I guess more of a club in that it has a membership ship fee which I guess is okay but I’d rather pay as I go.

The range I mentioned is in Lyndeborough. They have a membership fee, an annual dues, require you join the NRA and require you to do 4 hours of work or they want
more money when you renew your membership. I had a bad experiance with them
so I shoot on my own property like everyone else near me. My neighbor failed to send his dues on time so they never sent a reminder they just cancelled his membership.

Too bad people are like that but who needs them when you and I both have the property to shoot on our own which is great. Take care!

All the so-called public ranges the NH F&G list are either shoot for pay or a private membership club. The State has no State-owned ranges that the public may shoot at. They sucked up all the Pittsman/Robertson money every year and use it in the general budget so not 1 Range other than an archery range they put at the training site in Holderness.

Make me seem bitter but that is the truth. They have screwed the public. Even MA had ranges owned by the F&G.so what more can be said.
