I have some 50 caliber sabots with 45 caliber bullets someone gave me, tonight as I was cleaning my T/C 45 Cherokee, out of curiosity I pulled one of the hornady xtp mag 45 caliber bullets out of its sabot. It flopped down the T/C 45 caliber barrel loosely.

I took a round ball ticking patch from my tool box and it tightened the bullet up nicely in bore.

just curious if anyone had ever tried shoot such a contraption and what your results were.

Sure, about 200yrs ago, by all of the military across the globe, with experiments funded by their government.
They found out that something like that had to be pushed harder and spin faster than anything available.
So they made a different kind of gun, with a different kind of powder,, some even used a kind of wrap around the projectile,,
Others just found harder steel and forced the long bullet into it, without a wrapping,,
Long story short,, firearm developmental history can be your friend

I would not recomend shooting heavy slugs in a Cherokee. They are a light rifle not intended for heavy loads.

Forum Rules
9: We do not discuss copper and/or jacketed, plastic/polymer tipped bullets, sabots, power belts, or other 'plastic-wrapped' bullets. Smoothbores using plastic wads and steel shot are an exception to this rule.

IF one wants to discuss a modern molded lead alloy bullet that is paper or linen patched, that's about as far as the rule may be stretched. ;)
