Since September is National Mushroom Month, I thought a mushroom-themed target might be interesting.

Target contains 5 mushrooms. Shoot 2 shots at each mushroom for a total of 10 shots. Only 2 shots per mushroom count for score.

Put 1/2 your ball into the black cap area for 10 pts and 5 pts for the stem - maximum score 100 pts.

Please post your targets here with the information on your rifle - Make/caliber/powder charge/ball diameter/patch thickness/material. Pics of your rifle appreciated.

All shooting at 25 yds standing offhand (or sitting offhand if you have a physical disability)

We are shooting for bragging rights and I hope everyone enjoys this target!

Gary

I didn't know there was a national mushroom month.
Tasty!
Gary,
Thanks for hosting the monthly challenge.

I had the urge to harvest some wild mushrooms today with my Mowrey .50cal. cap lock rifle. (This one's from Waldron, IL, not TX.) Normally, I use .495" RB's in that rifle, which I did for the first two targets, but as I ran out of them, I used .490" RB's. Although smaller, those .490" RB's didn't do too badly and loaded real easily. (BP Maniac would love it!) My first target wasn't so good, mostly because I had trouble finding the proper vertical hold and needed a bit of windage adjustment as well. Target #2 speaks for itself, but I won't claim it or #3 for record as I shot kneeling, with my right forearm on the bench. (Lower back issues make off hand shooting difficult and painful these days.) Here are the particulars:

Rifle: Mowrey .50cal.cap lock with 1" bbl.
Load: 55gr. GOEX FFg
Patch: .018" pillow ticking
Ammo: .495" RB's (.497" in fact; Lee mould) for targets #1 & 2; .490" RB (.492" in fact; RCBS mould),
Lube: 1Ballistol : 6 water
Caps: Winchester #11 Magnum

Btw, I didn't swab the bore or need to for 30 shots with the Ballistol/water combination

Thanks Maven - you have a couple of good targets there after the first one! I'm looking forward to shooting it this month if the weather stops raining!

I like these targets. Is the rule still that we shoot one and done?
I have no problem if members want to shoot multiple targets and turn in your best target. Since we are only shooting for bragging rights and the cost is nothing, unless a majority of the participants oppose this idea, shoot all you want!

A windy day at the range. Thought I would shoot my pistol this month. Fired 10 shots and hit the target 8 times. I think I need to shoot it more than once a year.

T/C patriot .45 cal.
25 Gr. Goex 3F
.015 patch
.440 RB
Thanks for submitting your target! These targets are difficult to shoot with a rifle much less a pistol! Well done!
Gary

i certainly have no objection to allowing the shooting of multiple targets. it would allow us to track the improvement, or lack thereof in my case!
also there could be a shoot with one target for multiple rifles. all shots per target with a single gun, or one shot each gun on a single target.
shooting has endless options!

I say let's have as much fun as we can!

I was going to shoot mine last Saturday but was shooting so poorly I decided not to and see how another day would work out. So shooting more than one target and turning in the best one would be ok with me. Of course the way I am shooting maybe it will get worse as each day passes!🤔🤔

T/C Renegade .50
60 Gr of 3F Schuetzen
.018” Pillow Tick patch
Frontiers Bear Paw lube
Hornady .490 Rounds
Sunny and warm

Well, here it is. The old .50 cal Renegade rides again! It looks like I am getting closer to getting the Renegade barrel back to usable. It actually looks like it is starting to pattern. Or luck was with me…
I was also making slight adjustments to the sights. Had a fun afternoon out shooting this target!
I put the target on green poster paper to see the shots better.

A friend I fly model airplanes with was with me and he was shooting a CVA .45 Kentucky pistol he built many years ago and had not shot it since ’82 or ’83. Looks like he may be re-catching the bug.
