Pedersoli .72 Double Rifle

I have had mine for a few years and enjoy shooting it.
On another thread a poster had just gotten one of these and was searching for caps.
Rather than start thread drift, thought I'd start a new one to ask how other owners like theirs.

When I first got mine I started by developing a load for each barrel and tested them independently.
The left barrel (if I'm doing my part) has produced 2" groups at 100 yards. The right barrel isn't quite as good but still does 3" - 3 1/2" groups.
I use the same load in both barrels: 90grs. Goex FFg, .010" patch and .715" ball. I don't cast (yet) but whatever round ball I've happened to use seems to be working okay so far.

Regulation of the two barrels is a little off: Windage is spot on at 100 yards but elevation varies by 4" to 6".
If I remember right I believe they are supposed to be regulated at 75 yards. I do know that at 50 yards it's one gigantic ragged hole.
At 100 yards I have one of the rear sights set for the left barrel and the second rear sight for the right barrel.
My system for keeping that straight is: The forward rear sight is for the right barrel, as that trigger is on the right and forward of the opposite trigger.
The reverse is true for the left barrel. While it sounds complicated, it works well out on the range.

I'm curious to see the two rear sights, I've not heard of that before in doubles.

So you're using the folding leaf for each sight? That's a genuinely interesting way of doing things!

Typically ivs always seen them used purely for elevation, I.e. one for close range, one for long.

When I first got that rifle I had planned on using them just as you described. When I found the point of impact difference at 100 yards I came up with this method.

So far so good.

I found on mine that as I searched for a load for best regulation, all the other problems, dropped by the wayside. I shoot cci #11 mag caps, 140 grns of 2f, .715" with a .018" pillow ticking patch lubed with TOTW mink oil. The barrels regulate 2" at 50 yds.

I’ve used mine a lot & I really like it. I can use one rear sight for both barrels if I use a .715 PRB & 80 grains of FF Goex with a 1/2” fiber wad over powder. However, I wanted more oomph so I ended up sighting in one rear sight for each barrel. I also had to replace my front sight with a taller one from Skinner Sights. It’s now sighted in for the same PRB/wad combo but with 150 grains of FF Goex.

Pedersoli have been using two rear sights on their double rifles for decades to overcome regulating the barrels by test firing at the factory.

I've often wondered, having not seen or handled one of the .72", do Pedersoli use their 10g barrels for them?
