Does any reenactor you know use theatrical facial hair to add to their persona? I have been thinking that theatrical hair applications would be preferable to growing my own facial hair and enduring all the itching.

Your thoughts?

It would appear that in 1810-1840's Professionals eg. Soldiers (Officers), Engineers, Surveyors, Lawyers and Merchants and various tradesmen etc. seem to wear the "Mutton Chops / Sideburns".

RM
I have no experience in the matter, but my first thoughts are that this style would be the easiest to wear/achieve with the OP's suggested method. Good suggestion!

If you was a beard every now and then they don’t itch
What’s wrong with these photos?
Beards were just coming in during one and very rare times in colonial times.
Most of the gents who are shown in Miller or Bringham are clean shaved
Even during the WBTS when beards were in style shaved was common.
My Dad was in the Navy during WW2. Sailors could grow beards over seas. And he had phots of him with a beard. But most of the boys with him are shaved
I wear a beard, but it’s out of place in much of the time I do, and in colonial it stands out.
If you don’t want one you remain very correct without beard,
The last photos are very correct

It's been a very long time since I was cleanly shaven. In my youth, my beard was massive coal-black I could have easily played Blak Beard the pirate, but now is a massive salt and pepper beard. ;)

I think it adds to the persona of the infantryman ..I was one of the few that had a beard. We were based in Orlando, most of my unit worked for the mouse which allowed NO FACIAL HAIR..!!!!
