The sun will rise on the Colorado ML elk and deer season. šŸ¦Œ

This year I'll be licensed for a cow elk and a doe mulie. My partner is licensed for cow elk.

I'll be following up with details. šŸ˜€

Good luck to all who are setting out this fall for whatever is your game to pursue. Hope everyone jumps in and tells their stories.

Just got an area report from a family member who was bowhunting the area. Lotsa deer but no elk sign. However, he was hunting deer and didn't get into the elk haunts.

I lived in CO once upon a time. I enjoyed the ML season immensely. I wish you the best of luck & a great hunt!

Best of luck this season!! I'll be out there this weekend as well, only with a recurve instead of a smoke pole.
Best to you too.

Ironically, I will also be packing my bow also and hold an ES OTC elk tag. When my friend from Nebraska and i hunt elbow to elbow I'll be calling for him and be prepared if a bull presents.

This is his first time with the charcoal burner so I'm going to sort of prioritize his hunt.

I think you scored an antelope for me once?

Sounds like it's going to be an adventure for you both! I may have measured your pronghorn, what is your name? Been an OM for B&C now 27yrs, seen a lot of trophy's/hunters.

So, the hunt is done and has been for a few days. Past time it is capped off. :)

What was planned to be a backpack hunt ended up being done out of a car camp. Our original destination looked to be already hit hard by folks scouting in advance of ML and Archery season. The archery season was open while I checked it out but decided that it was not going to be a good choice.

Our second choice of area lends itself to car camping so that is what we did. We had a good camp and it was good company. The hunting was not so much! Elk were very rare and in fact we found no sign that truly encouraged us. Deer were plentiful and I passed up several opportunities since it would inconvenience our elk hunting. I may revisit the area again on the weekend but not for sure.

We did a 7 our trek through high ground, calling and observing along the way but had no results.

It wasn't all futile though. The grouse are plentiful this year and we managed to bring a few to bag.

These are blue grouse and are very fine eating.

A side trip and a little break from the hunt produced a fish for dinner.
