1.5 swiss/goex in a 16 gauge

How does everyone think this would work? Disregarding the differences between the two brands/velocity what is everyone’s experience with 1.5 in a larger smoothbore? I have usually used 2f and occasionally 3f. Thanks

I really couldn't tell you. It does however, sound like a fun experiment. Try it out, and tell us what your findings are. Half the fun of this hobby is in the experimentation with powder charges, patched balls vs. wads, ball sizes....so many variables. Oh...and post photos of your targets.

Others have reported different results with Swiss 1 1/2Fg. But, mine is I found it near impossible to ignite. Gave it away to a friend that does bpcr.

Yes maybe some experimenting is in the future! I don’t need any prodding to have another reason to get out and shoot haha. Rifleman that is interesting info. I have seen a mixed bag of experiences from the stuff I have read up on.

I have shot Goex fg in my 16..

It did well with shot, but haven’t used it for round balls..

Takes more powder but recoil isn’t bad..
More of a push than a kick…

I'm shooting Jack's Powder Keg #44 black powder for small cannons and muskets. It's made by Goex, and appears to be 4FA blasting & fireworks powder. That's unglazed powder, the "pass" screen is the same as for Fg and the "stop" screen is the same as for FFg. So it covers the granule size spectrum of both, more or less a 50/50 mix, and I'll bet that's what anybody's "1 1/2Fg" is. It works perfectly in my 15 gauge fowler with 2 1/2 drams (~70 grains) of powder and 1 oz. shot, just measuring both with a 1 oz. shot dipper. I use the same with a 1 oz. ball. The regular reenactment powder, BTW, is 5FA. Unglazed blasting & fireworks powder with the same screen sizes as FFFg, and functionally equivalent to it. A little less expensive when available.

I am shooting 100 grains of 1.5f Swiss in my Pedersoli Bess behind a paper wrapped .69 ball. Seems to work fine set off by either 4f or 3f in the pan.
