Finally got my new braintan deerskin slit/split pouch by Jeanne McDonald @ LONGKNIVES AND LEATHER BY RICH AND JEANNE MCDONALD

Couldn’t be more pleased. Really like the coffin shaped opening and the blue glass trade beads. Simple pouch for a (very)simple guy

Nice pouch!

I see the seam on the near edge in the photos. Was this pouch made as a front and back (two pieces) stitched together, or one larger piece folded over ?

It looks good, either way.

Good eye as always Notchy 👍
I believe it was made from two separate pieces sewn together with the fringe coming from the back piece.

I've never seen or heard of such a pouch. Please tell me how it is worn/used. Thank you.

It is worn folded over the belt or sash with the opening up top. I’ll put frequently used items like fire kit, jerkey, car keys in the easily accessible front half and less used items like turn screw, spare flints, hussif, compass in the rear half. Basically it’s a smaller version of the market wallet like the handsomely bearded gentleman is rocking in the last photo.

Very historically accurite as in the photo, twisted! man!

Look at the hair on that thing! Jeanie McDonald is a legend in her own time. She and Beth Gilgun are two ladies I admire and try to emulate in my homegrown crafts. R.I.P., Ms. Gilgun, wherever you are is no doubt a more stately and historically correct place. George.

The decorated slit pouches are often worn with the slit up (like in this portrait of Sa Ga Yeath Qua Pieth Tow and I often wonder to what extent they did that because they embellished the opening. I didn’t decorate the one I wear, and I usually wear it slit down so my stuff doesn’t fall out.
