REDUCED If you are tired of cut down little belly guns, then this is for you. In South Philly they would say "Yo. I got your hogleg hangin' here." And this IS quite a hogleg. It started life as a replica New Model Navy, not sure by whom. Some clever gunsmith got ahold of it and stretched it! Both the frame and cylinder were lengthened. Cylinder is 3" long! Affixed to this was a round smoothbore barrel 11.75" long. The gun is really clean. Obviously had been shot, but cared for. The action works and times as it should, but the bolt needs to be a little taller to lock cylinder in sync with barrel (a little side to side play). This seems an easy fix for you folks who like messing with the internals on these things. Being an oddity and a piece that will earn you envious side glances at the range, I am asking $400 SHIPPED. Comes with a dandy custom holster.

Interesting gun! Could you please say what bore the gun is?
I assume it is now a six-shot muzzleloading shotgun?
Kind of like a .410 shotgun?
It is a .36 cal. Yes, essentially a shotgun, but I wouldn't rule out its effectiveness with round balls or conicals. A lot if cylinder to play with. The .357 magnum of its species?

A shot cup with 5/8 ounce of shot would make that a close-range handy bird gun.
Or even three .36 cal. balls in each chamber a potent and hard-hitting hand canon.
Maybe not an elk gun, but fun to play with.

In my opinion BigSkyRambler should say this is for sale as a non shooter and display piece. I'm no lawyer (I don't like them) but I am a certified welder that has Tig welded in nukes. The photos show a line on the cylinder where a piece was added (silver brazed?) and you can see a line on the top strap where the piece was added. If it was all welded you wouldn't see a joining joint. I'm not trying to run it down as it looks cool, but I would love to see an xray of the whole pistol before I even thought of shooting it with a normal load let alone 3 -.36 balls. JMHO.

My thoughts are that the front of the original cylinder was milled down, leaving a stub to line up extension. Kind of like some of the gunsmith cartridge conversions. Can't say for sure, but I will try and round up some .36 balls or bullets and give it a good proofing. The guy who did this seemed to be a pretty clever gunsmith, based on some other creations out of his estate. I just don't see other evidence he was making anything for decoration. But I understand the words of caution.

This is a fantasy pistol--definitely unique. Obviously it is a project pistol
needing a good pistol smith to finish it and test its safety. As such it is
worth the asking price.

That's not something that could be cobbled together and come out as well as it did. Somebody knew what they were doing. More than likely, the cylinder extension was added around the central hub, and each of the 6 loadable chambers sleeved in, just guessing, I didn't inspect it. Not unsafe, if done properly. Same with extending the frame. Black powder pressures aren't the same as smokeless, but single action frames have been tweaked and beefed up for smokeless loads for decades .

I wouldn't hesitate to putter with this gun and work up to normal loads. Maybe have if checked out or proofed first. But, this doesn't seem like a bubba made piece.

Definitely not Bubba. The guy whose estate it came from seemed a pretty competent gunsmith. As for me, I never have luck tinkering with revolvers. Too much fine work for arthritic fingers. I am sure one of the Cap Gun Whisperers could put it right in short order.

if it was to be rifled you could put some heavier conicals in that monster
maybe bore it out to take a .36 so you could use the128 grain maxiball :)
could probably load it with 40 grains of powder

that'd hit the target like a charging moose

The cylinder is smooth and the energy is created at the breech,It looks like a section was added at the factory. By the time the ball gets there it will be passing through. I would not hesitate to shoot it, black powder loads will be fine.

It is staying as is. I do not know if the intention was to rifle it. Smith may not have had the equipment. A number of "incomplete" projects were in the auction, including some antique BPCRs that for some inexplicable reason he was turning into muzzleloaders. I bought one to save it from that ignoble future. Another project for me. Yea!
