What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Hopefully today the 524 grain .54 round nose mold arrives and I get to pour some to check the as-cast diameter..

Ordered tracing paper for paper patching bullets. Amazon is too easy - costs me money, lol.

Cool man, enjoy them. I’m NOT a “ roundball shooter “ never have been except for my first yr with the TC Hawken .50 I & my father & youngest brother all started out with. If I can’t shoot conicals or bullets out of it, I don’t want anything to do with it.
I wish that 35yrs ago when I started muzzleloading that I’d have learned about the Gibbs in .40. I’d have gotten one & would still be shooting it today.

A .4 Gibbs target rifle in need of renovation sold for £2700 last Holts auction I started to make my version with a LH flint and as I bought this big slab of walnut I started on two more. Just getting carried away

Ringing 50 yd off hand steel with the Frontier flintlock today.

Worked at the Church’s sale and bought a 1.6 square yard piece of cotton flannel. I cut it into 2” squares and now have over 500 cleaning patches. Paid a buck for the flannel so less than a penny each. Too bad they are pink!!

Went out and made the steel ring over and over. Forgot to take pics again. Hope you'll take my word for it.

i didn't do anything today so i heard gunpa and Ranch Roper ringing steel! Gunpa to the south and Ranch Roper to the north!
have an injured dog so didn't do any shooting to upset him, but sure wanted to.

Brought home some more #11 caps.....They are out there, one has to hunt them down ....

I picked up a 42inch/ 50 cal. barrel setup for flint. upon inspection, I noticed the vent was protruding into the chamber about 1/2 way. is that common? Should I back it out to about 1/4 inch?? seems to leave an area that can't be cleaned.

Depending on the vent design, I might be more tempted to remove material from the inside part of the vent assuming there are enough threads.

Trimming the vent to the proper length is part of gun building, I used to use a Dremel with a diamond bit to quickly remove what is protruding into the barrel, Lately I mark the excess with a sharpie, take the liner out and grind off the excess on a bench grinder. I do a few checks and grinds taking off just a little at a time to get it just right.

Here is what happens if something protrudes into your breech that will stop your cleaning jag and not let you dry the breech plug area out.

Got my co2 stuck ball unit today, Loretta puked out a dry ball I set on tuesdays outing. That was my only flinter and I’m out of caps so I had to get that fire lock back on line.

First practice with our 4-H muzzleloader team. They got my two rifles and pistol sighted in! Thanks Jim for selling me the T/C .45 hawken. The kids love it.

Still breaking in my new mold. My sprue plate screw fell off right when things were going good. Too hot to handle and I couldn't start that left hand screw with gloves on.

Thank's for the advice fellas! I will remove it if I can. This barrel will probably go down the road, I'm looking to do a .40 cal. build.
