I shoot 3/4 ounce of shot over 55 grain FFF in mine. I use #6 shot for cotton tails or tree rats. That should give you a starting point to go with.
Bump this up to 60 grains of fffg and use #7 1/2 or #8 shot, and it’s great for Doves and those pesky Tye-Fighter Quail. Load with #5 shot and take pheasants, though try to keep them inside 30 yrds.

Looking for data on loads for a ML 28ga., specifically #4 buck & #4 birdshot, just good all-around loads, not magnum loads.

Thanks.

If you are going to try some buckshot loads, give some thought to layer8ng and how well they stack.8n that small of a bore size, your options are pretty limited anyway. Probably #4 or #3 buckshot only.
Double ball loads can be interesting to experiment with. Just don’t use a tightly patched ball on top. Too much chance of getting a compressed air space between the balls that could cause a dog-knot bulge in your barrel.

Any thoughts on 2F loads?
Actually my shotgun "mentor" when it comes to BP shotguns, suggested that 3Fg and not 2Fg was much better for birdshot. He likes the rapid acceleration. Seems odd BUT modern shotgun powders also are very quick on the powder-burning-scale... so there seems to be something to the principal. ;) Truth be told, I have had more success with 20 gauge loads using 3Fg in cylinder bored barrels (no choke) than when using 2Fg, and 1Fg is a no go.
