Uses for "pine" sap?

As far as I know, "Oil Cloth" was what they used, but it treated the cloth with linseed oil.

Was just sittin here at work pointing out some of these uses to a coworker and he swears rubbing your hands with baby powder will get pitch off your hands. I dont know

Pine tar, castor oil, and pennyroyal oil combined is supposed to be a good insect repellent according to Nessmuk.

Woodsman's fly dope original formular. Stank but worked everyone wore it. It is still erotic to me as the smell and taste brings back fond memories of my wife and I at a young age!

Pine tar for ships was very common, only one place left that I know who still makes genuine Stockholm Tar; grat stuff, great smell, and Yes you can use it for waterproofing (rather 'resistant'), I have used it on both felt tricorn and canvas...as well as rope and wood.
The 'black' stuff you see on ships today is usually Not the old style stuff.

And the Native glue mentioned earlier with pine sap and dear (or buffalo) dug, or just use charcoal, works great...I saw that one on an episode of Mountain Men.
