It was supposed to be the "best" functioning of the dragoons. Anyone have one? How do you like it?

I think with repros it really doesn't matter , Colt may have made some design changes but all the repros are basically the same

I had read that the oval cylinder stops were better as far as durability

I'm not sure why the 3rd model Dragoon would be considered the "best" functioning model. About the only difference between the models were the mainspring, where the 1st Model had the V-shape mainspring same as the Walker. It functioned fine. 2nd and 3rd had the more typical flat spring. Also, the early Dragoons had the round cylinder notches(no lead in) and consequent round bolt. It also functioned fine. So, other than such features as the trigger guard shape--oval or squareback--it becomes a matter of which one you prefer.

I have two ASM Dragoons via Replica Arms, Model 2 and CVA, Model 3. Need to do a little work on the model 2. I bought both on GB. As far as functionality I've experienced no difference. Aesthetically speaking, they are both beautiful guns.

I enjoy mine, its an Uberti. Yes with full house loads that lever will not stay. My Uberti has one cylinder that is a touch tighter than the rest and at some point will have that addressed. My fun load for target practice is .457 ball, 35 grs of 3f and of course #10 caps. I made a cross draw holster for it o_O, and nope I do not wear the dern thing! Only Josey Wales can get away with that!

Don’t really see the point of shooting a Dragoon pistol if all your going to fire in it are the same loads you can shoot in an 1860 Army.

You mean like shooting 45 acp out of 45 C? Cheaper just as fun . . . same in a cap gun . . .

I found the oval cylinder stops to be inferior to the later ones.

How so? Maybe a timing thing? My most accurate revolver is a Whitney Dragoon that still has a round bolt (for the oval locking notch) but the cylinder has rectangular notches (one of "those" cyls.)!! You can fan this one and not have a problem!!
I'm pretty sure most of the complaints come from ill timing that the "average" shooter has no clue as to what "perfect timing" is!! Lol!!

I would have been 100% in agreement with you till a few years back and I understand where you are coming from. I got my Uberti Walker back from Goons those few years back and let me tell you no matter how hard and fast I cock it stops like a Corvette hitting a cement wall at 100 MPH. There is no missing and no peening of the slots and no play when it's locked. I would never have believed it could be made to work like that.

Somehow this sounds, in its way, like explaining to me there's no reason to be driving my '62 Corvette if I observe the same speed limits as I do in my 2015 Chevy....
