Im relatively new, but have seen some changes even since ive been reading and eventually joined here, and since Zonie passed. Opening things up for more topics than the main focus of the forum is a recipe for a manure show. Its already degraded somewhat with some posters being disrespectful to other members and off topic comments.

I see some of the topics in the general section mentioned in the emails, some make me curious, most though, and pretty much every single post that is saturated with political opinion and assumptions make we want to avoid them and less interested in the forum overall. Ive seen such things poison and dilute other places. Regardless of ones outlook or the color of the coolaid they like, this isnt the place for such garbage.

Id love to see another strong hand at the helm of moderation like Zonie, it would help get the forum back on track and either discourage or send down the road the disruptive elements.

Actually, these comments reinforce the value to me of this forum - a place to go where those i read have a single shared interest, muzzleloading. I may be in the minority but i enjoy reading even the off-center comments in some of the for sale ads because they’re still all about muzzle loaders. I wish i had the opportunity to hang out with more of you in person but i don’t think Big Sky, et al, are interested in re-locating to Council Bluffs.

Such a shame, really…

A catch all forum.

A place where you can talk about anything, let a conversation wander naturally.

No asinine rules, about arbitrary dates in history.

All the biggest message boards have em.

Something to think about
Definitely not. That's what Facebook and Twitter are for. Where's the dislike button? 👎

Rule # 2, the forum is:
Privately owned
Your a GUEST
Family oriented
Think twice before posting
Rule # 11, as I was taught:
Praise in public
Negative feedback in private
A couple of recently departed members would probably still be here if this had been followed.

To the forum owners - I like the format as it currently is. There seems to be a place for most of the topics that I would come to a muzzleloading forum for. I also like the membership here, it doesn't seem as "stuffy" as some sites. We have the complete range of m/l shooters from basic beginners to full-on artist/builders. Also, new members under 50 should probably go watch the movie "Grumpy Old Men" before they spend too much on the forum 😚

As stated in post #2. Just pay your $18 annual fee and have at it. Actually it’s one of the more interesting forums in these pages, if one is not a rock lock fan or a cap lock fan or an period costume fan or a ………….!!
By its sheer number of threads posted it’s one of the most viewed if not the most viewed.
My own interest is limited to pistols and breech loaders of the civil war era, so the members only any topic forum is quite interesting.
I do check the guns for sale section several times daily.
BTW. The current “Jokes” thread was one of Zonies favorites if one can judge by the sheer number of jokes he posted.

I said it before , and i will say it again ; This is the best site of it's kind around !!! I came here to listen and learn about everything i thought i knew about muzzleloading , and the education is astounding !! Thank you all !!! Keep it the way it is !

Agreed, this is an outstanding forum for all things ML and related to.

What if one crusty ol' fart, wants to talk to another crusty ol' fart about his granddaughters 30-30 ?

They're both here, they both love muzzleloaders, they both like to pontificate about how awesome they are............now they gotta go somewhere else to yak about it?

If the purpose of a message board is to gather the most eyeballs for advertising, its in the message boards best interest to have an "off topic" forum where like minded members can visit about the rest of their similar lives.

It increases the average number of minutes a user spends on your board.
If you feel that the rules are asinine, you might be happier somewhere else. If I want to discuss breechloaders, I go to a site that is all about them. They're just a click away.

Yep, you and those two old shooters are welcome to go to modern muzzleloaders, a site much like this one, I'm on that one too and you can discuss all those modern weapons that you like. Please stick to muzzleloaders on this site.
Squint

Yep. This forum is about traditional muzzleloaders. Period. See Rules 1, 10, & 11.

There are off-topic sub-forums you can use here, or use the private message feature. The bottom line is the vast majority of members here don't want these pages cluttered with irrelevant side chatter. The Web is full of forums that died a slow death as they lost their focus and appeal, we don't want to add this one to the graveyard.
Rule number two should disqualify a not insignificant number of posts here.
