Thank you to all who made the trip to shoot with us today. Some good shooting, great weather, and great fun. Nice to meet so many shooters who enjoy our sport. We will do this again, with your support. Thank you all for helping tear down and put away. The range was in better shape when we left than when we go there!

I will try to put together a report of our activities tomorrow...I am tired.

Great that someone wants to organize a shoot for that area. Theres plenty of shooters theres but NO ranges in vermont unless your up northern vermont.

The results are in!!! Everyone won. We had great weather, great company, and a great time. We shot three targets at 25 yards (running fox, standing woodchuck, and squirrel), one target at 50 yards (100 yard standard bull target), and our resident Bigfoot with 12-inch gong at 100 yards (almost). The Bigfoot proved elusive as always, only taking eight fatal hits out of 22 shots fired. Best score was three in a row!

We had participants from NY, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Below is a group shot of the gang after the meet was over. Notice that we had live music being played during the Bigfoot match, by our local Trombonist, Cameron. You can see our 8-foot Bigfoot in the background lurking behind the target frames.

There has been a strong vote for a repeat match, perhaps as we approach fall. Anyone interested, please PM me so I can get you on my contact list.

Thanks again for your interest and participation.

My apologies....our musician was Conor Thomas, son of Matt Thomas, not Cameron. Brain fart.

Your host, Bigfoot, in the green waistcoat.

Welcome Back, Shooters!

I have been getting some inquiries into whether or not I would hold this match again this Spring. The BIGFOOT target is ready, the range is ready, are YOU?

I have noticed how many muzzle loaders there are in the Green Mountains and Adirondacks, and the numbers continue to grow. I am thinking about putting together another informal fun shoot at our range in Whitehall, NY. The Whitehall Fish and Game Club is a few miles west of the NY/Vermont border between Rutland and Glens Falls. They have graciously consented to our using their range for such a meet.

This event is not limited to NY or VT shooters: last year we had shooters from five states.

Before I go further, I am trying to gauge the level of interest. Our plan is for a Sunday afternoon (noon until 5:00 PM) shoot in late April with paper targets at 25 yards and 50 yards, and some steel a little further out. All shots offhand, and round balls only. Flintlocks and caplocks (or matchlocks, wheelocks), open sights. This is not a formal competition, and there are no prizes or awards…only bragging rights and eternal glory. This would be a good opportunity to meet others from the Forum.

To cover costs, I will be asking for a $5 fee to shoot. Non-members of the Whitehall Fish and Game club will be asked for a $5 donation for the club. All non-members will also be required to sign a waiver of liability.

If I hear from enough shooters by March 15th, I will secure the range and make all the necessary arrangements, send out directions to the club, etc. Feedback from last year was universally positive.

If interested, please PM me on this site, and give me your email address and phone. It is time to get out and burn some powder in warm weather!

Don't get discouraged if you don''t get many shooters the first few times. When I started the Ancient Ones GEEZER SHOOTS, we had 3 or 4. Every month we average 10-12. Getting out and shooting with like minded folks is good for the soul!
Best Of Luck

We had seventeen shooters at our first shoot last year! Very pleased, and hope to see everyone again.
