I beg to differ as I saw my grandpa shave with one a number of times even though he also had a Gillette safety razor. He also had a leather strop that was used to strop the blade and also as an”educational” instrument for uncooperative youngsters.
Best shave you'll ever have... if you live through it. Remember kids.. ""Don't drink and shave".

I can cut myself with a safety razor. No way would I, or could I, shave with a straight razor. But I remember watching my grandfather using one. I never once saw him use anything but. And I remember thinking no way, no how.

When I was in the Air Force, stationed in Taiwan in the early 70s, I used to go downtown to the barbershop every Sunday and get a shave, shampoo, and a haircut. They always used a straight razor, after some time with a hot towel over the face softening the beard. Best shaves I've ever had.
