I shot my new firestick...now the target is nothing to write home about at all, maybe the worst one I've shot in a long time, but this is the first time I've shot a flintlock and I got on the paper.

However, my new Pedersoli Frontier went off every time, no issues at all. I have already corrected the front sight (it was off center a fraction, hence the left hook on the target). So the next time will be centered better and I just have to hold longer.

50 yds off hand. It feels heavier than the caplock, the maple wood maybe? And the ramrod bottoms out a little sooner than the caplock notch on it. Maybe 1/4". Both are Frontier rifles. It balances in the middle in a different spot than the caplock too, difference in locks I guess. Might need a little shaved off the front sight too, I know I was not holding long enough though.

This is 60 grains of Schutzen 3fg. .490 ball and .010 patch. I am used to shooting Triple 7 in my caplock so I had to swab a little more today. I can get off 8 or 10 shots with T7 but swabbed after every 3 shots or so today, just to make it easier to get the ball down the barrel.
I think I have a good lock on this rifle though, sparks and go off every time, never a hint of hesitation. It's not as fast as the caplock obviously but darn near. I was also very proud of myself for no flinching!!!

Speaking of T7, I tried a little experiment before cleaning. Poured a little 3fg in the pan and shot it....flashed instantly. BIG flash. A white flash though not like a black powder fire flash. But it went off no problem. Thinking if it goes off that easy in the pan, it should go off in the barrel.
Why even consider it the Holy Black crowd asks? It's readily available, I have lots of it and can order it online here unlike real BP. That = more range time and no shortage worries. However, that's an argument for another day.

I love this rifle, and cannot wait to shoot it again!

you shame me! my first shots with a flinchlock wouldn't have hit a bull in the butt at 25 yards let alone 50!
now i know you will shame me in the April shoot !

Shot my new lefty GPR in a 50 yard bench match at my club. Shot a 77 3X for 8th place. Pretty happy with that for a new rifle, and 3rd place in the pistol match with my Trapper. It was a fun day. Now to clean 3 guns...

Is that a stock trailer or a converted utility trailer? I guess it doesn’t matter, but I like your build and it is giving me ideas!

It’s a 20’ enclosed cargo trailer… with plywood on the walls…It’s still a work in progress.
I’m planning on insulting the roof too help with heating & cooling.
Planning on a couple of wooden screen doors as well..👍

Well, I had a pretty newbie sort of goofy time shooting my new Pedersoli .45 caliber Kentucky rifle, (percussion). Found out the delrin rod I use with my Enfield doesn’t work well with this rifle. Decided to use the ramrod on the rifle. First shot was a little low. Went to load a second ball. Real hard to start and then got stuck like cement about 6 inches down the barrel. The RO thought maybe I double patched the ball. Nothing moved it, and couldn’t get it out with either rod using a bullet puller. So, I went home, called a friend, and together we got it out. I looked at the patch, but there seemed to be only one. The rifle is .45 caliber, and I was just going to test .440” balls with .015” patches, and then .010” patches. I thought a .440” ball with a .015” patch would work. Should I just try again? I think so, huh?! Going on Friday again. Almost afraid to use the .445” balls, even with .010” now.

So I worked on my Chandler impression, by consolidation of some old beeswax into a new melting tank for making dipped, beeswax candles. AND I worked on a box to hold the styrofoam cooler. I will post a photo when it's done The box is also a stool and you can actually sit on it...yes even me with my Santa Clause physique....

OH and I ordered some "cake" pans for use inside my Dutch Oven. I'm going to try to "cheat" and make pork pies using these as molds, they are 5" diam and 4" tall. I also got some pie "tins" that will fit inside my 5 qt D.O. The nice thing about such is they will easily double as a plate for eating.

mixed bag of fun and frustration today on the range, with my son, shooting 45 investarm cap and 38 cap. 45 is chewing up patches and all over. Gonna try thicker patch next week. Couldn’t get the 38 to fire, pulled the ball 2x, fired caps, blew through the barrel, ran bread tie through breech hole. Finally gave up. Got home and pulled the ball AGAIN then ran the ball puller back down to find a small piece of scotch Brite in the breech from when I scrubbed the barrel a few days before. A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work

shot the April contest target today. nuff said about that! 🥴
shot the TC Hawken for another 10 shots after the target. neighbor was up shooting his unmentionables. i loaded then left the rod in the barrel to remind me it was loaded, and went to help him find brass.
fired the TC . man that thing bellowed and kicked! . thought i had triple charged it! when the stars went back to bed and i pried the butt plate out of my shoulder i saw a snake shaped mark on the backer board my targets are on.
found the delrin rod sans ends 12 feet past the target stand. first for me. pray its the last!
maybe getting to old and slow witted for having fun?

It was a nice day for spearfishing apparently. Yikes!

haven't told the boss what i did. She would only "CARP" on me! 🥴

that darn rod hit that board shaped like a snake! I was rather put out and threw the rod remnants in a fit of anger, over the bank in front of the house. thought later, i should find it and mount it as a "trophy" . now it's snowing so i won't be getting it tonight!

Was a bystander at the Willamette Long Rifles club "Bull of the Woods" shooting match.
Witnessed nice sparks and shooting!
The little lady "Bear" took second in the rifle section!
