if one researches the advent of the percussion cap, take into account the amount of flintlocks in use prior to 1822 and Crocketts death at a fairly early age,49. in 1836 it’s safe to assume he would have owned and used flint lock long gun and pistols as much perhaps more than cap locks.
Of course reproduction manufacturers are free to produce any version they think will sell the most

Excellent point, by mentioning this you bring up a very important question, obviously before modern foam invented, what sort of packing material was inside the box when ol Betsy was delivered !

it definitely looks converted --too bad the steel moths got to the barrel.
Gonna try to get it out in the light tomorrow if possible and get some photos, want to try to see the date code on it also as I’m curious what year it was manufactured.

I thought Crockett walked to pick up the rifle, but could be mis-taken, as for packing material of the time more than likely excelsior or wood shavings would be my guess.

Well, ok, to be honest wouldn’t it have been better for you to just pass this thread by and comment on something you are actually interested in, I posted this for the members who may have never seen this pistol or even know that they are out there, obviously not for all but for some, oh, and placing a “being tactful” disclaimer on an unnecessary and rude comment doesn’t negate your appearance of being an arrogant snob, and yes, I’m really being tactful here, your relativity new here, try to show some class and help the forum, not drive new or potential members away, realize sometimes it better just to keep your yap shut !

The unique cut-outs in the foam are to accommodate their Trapper pistol. Me thinks it is generic and will fit all of their side lock pistols.
I had one of these I bought new 20+ years ago. I sold it to a member here a couple years ago. I’ve kicked myself about it ever since. Great shooter it was.
Shot it a little yesterday, trigger needs a little work but it seems to shoot pretty good, looking forward to spending a little time with it .

When I bought my Crockett rifle around 20 years ago I was quite aware of this little pistol. In fact I didn't know it was no longer offered. I was never able to acquire the little sidearm but would have liked to. And it's made to be shot.
