Need four antler powder measures. Two 60 grain and two 25 grain. Would like them to resemble an original I have from 1781 (see picture below). So much talent here I know this is in the wheel house of one of you folks. And Merry Christmas.

I could make the measures but my engraving skills are non-existant.
If you can't find someone on the forum, October Country sells handmade antler measures. Maybe they could coordinate something with the person who makes them.

I don't think I've ever seen an antler THAT flat??? It almost looks like part of a Whale or Elk's tooth, or a tooth of SOME kind?? To me it seems too flat to be antler?? I think a body could make one; then boil it, and flatten it in a wood vice? But getting the measurement exact might be an exercise in futility? I might have to try this? Thanks for showing it off. Now I won't sleep tonight.

I have some areas of elk antler that are flat like that. That was the reason I turned them down for powderhorn tips. What on earth could you use flat antlers for? Who knew?
To get there, you make the capacity a little oversized at first. Then grind off the large end a little at a time. Check with powder as you go. When you hit the capacity you are after you begin on the fancy artwork on the outside.
I don't have it in my hand yet, purchased at auction now waiting for it to ship. I've actually got the complete kit coming, shooting bag, powder horn, priming horn, vent pick, etc. I'll share once it's here. The flatness might actually be just how the camera saw it, just don't know for sure until it's in hand. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas. I knew the engraving was going to be the tricky piece.

believe it or not you can get some from Etsy. and if you make your own
and drill them too deep. you can add bees wax to back-fill it

I have two antler measures in the grain weights you are looking for. One in 25 grain and one in 60. The shape is easily modified with small fine files, sand paper, etc. At least these are the sizes you are looking for. The longer 60 grain measure has alot of extra antler on the bottom that can be filed and shaped. Let me know if you are interested.

I appreciate it @Ohio Rusty, I currently have some but 1. they are stained dark inside and out making it hard to see the powder as I fill it, and 2 the 25 grain has such a small mouth its very hard to pour from the horn without spilling some. So wanting to replace them with both being light color inside and out, and both big enough mouths to not spill any "black unobtanium".

Lightly sanding the outside they will be an ivory color on the outside. I leave them with the original color on them when I make them.
