Ever use a T/C with the QLA system?

Work good with conicals, but not worth a hoot with rd. balls. Too hard to get the ball and patch centered right and if you try and cut the patch at the muzzle they keep pulling back out because there is no resistance to hold them in.

I've never experienced any problems using prb with the 54 t/c QLA........I've put about 300 prb down range so far....sure drops the 100meter steel target real quick.........john........

I agree, Rebel... I have found that if I take my time I can load a pretty good pre'cut prb, but patch cutting at the muzzle,,, fustrating... As you said, they work great with the conicals, and I believe this is what TC had in mind when they started adding this QLA System to their barrels... I prefer the prb, but have found that .54 caliber Hornady 425 grain HB/HP are far surperior to anything TC puts out there in the conical line... At least this is what I've found in my .54 TC Hawken, along with a load of 90 grains of Goex 2fg...

How can you tell if you have a QLA barrel?

I just acquired a Renegade at auction, but I don't see anything marked on the barrel to show if it has QLA or not.

Just looking at the barrel, it looks like there are minimal or no lands and grooves for the few couple of inches. Is this the QLA system?

Thanks
Hugh

The QLA muzzle has no lands for approximately the first inch as they are bored out to full bore size...conversely, if you have rifling right to the exit/crown of the muzzle, then you do not have the QLA feature

how much blow by can you get in that last 3/4" of barrel....not much in my mind.....as to loading prb in that QLA barrel all i do is start the patch and ball in just till its snug and while i'm pushing it down past the end of the muzzle with just finger pressure you still can turn the ball if it gets off center then push it down as far as you can with your finger.....that my experiance with the QLA so far and not once had to pull out a ball yet....just my .02............................bob

My T/C Renegade in .50 cal has the QLA muzzle. I don't know if it's directly responsible for this or not, but I can't make that rifle shoot PRB worth a hoot. It also doesn't like long-for-calibre conicals. But now that I've found a nice short 300 grain conical (PRBullets Keith-nose Hollow Point) this rifle shoots like a house afire (1/2" 3-shot groups at 50 yards). The QLA makes loading conicals very easy, and I'm now to the point that I don't even use a short starter. I use two hands on my full-length rod, one to apply pressure and one to act as a guide. Seems to produce good results...

"I use two hands on my full-length rod, one to apply pressure and one to act as a guide."

Geez, after re-reading this line I realized it could be mis-interpreted very easily, with embarassing results. Please substitute the following phrase "full-length ramrod".

Who, we'uns on this here board, misinterperate sumthin' ya said, Nah, never happen. So do we call you Short Stroke now? :: ::
