Anyone have an octagon to round Rifled gun? I'm not looking to buy one, just wondering if anyone has an actual longrifle with a octagon to round barrel. I have a .60 smoothrifle with a 1/3 octagon to round, but anyone got a grooved rifle with one? I know Sharps and Remington and so forth did it later with BPCRs, but specifically wondering if anyone has a trad longrifle with such a barrel?

Do you mean an original? I have a Chambers Virginia rifle that is patterned off what Jim believes was a John Newcomer rifle. Should be quite a few fellows with modern reproductions I would guess.

I built an early rifle with a wooden box and an octagon to round barrel. The main issue is that the front sight needs to be tall or it will shoot high. This is because of the taper of the barrel from rear sight to front sight. Mine is .54.

If I’m not mistaken Wattlebuster owns a rifled .62 gun that I’m pretty sure is octagon to round..
That's interesting to me. Hopefully @wattlebuster will chime in. I'm wondering if a rifled octagon to round barrel can be had to be a drop in swap out between my current smoothbore .62 barrel and a rifled one in my Early Virginia smoothrifle

Mine is a fifty smooth bore.

I think the T/C White Mountain Carbine has an octagon to round barrel.

My bad…🤥
Looks like Wattles gun was a swamped profile .62.
His Turkey gun is oct to round but smoothbore.. Caywoods I think??🤫

Maybe Cattywompass will respond and let us know exactly why he was inquiring and whether he wanted examples of originals or reproductions.
Curiosity. I only wanted to know if it was done 250 years ago. Not particularly interested in modern designs like TC. But round adds many disadvantages to a longrifle that isn't smoothbore. So I wanted to know if it was done.
