Why not simply read posts #49 and #51?

Appalichian hunter just accidentally omitted the ‘2’, just as you failed to write ‘you’re’ instead of ‘you’. And the ? at the end of your first line. And the full point at the end of your post. And I believe that the correct designation for the round is .30-06, not 30/06.

Springer give it a break, LOOK BACK 9 POSTS WHERE i CAUGHT THE MISS. as I posted some how the 2 went missing, As too the older rifles you want too keep velocity lower which equates too C.U.P. pressures. No need too get you panties all in a knot it was a honest miss on the typing of the velocity. BUT THEN THEN I WOULD EXPECT A REPLY SUCH AS YOURS TOO BE IN COMING SEEING AS HOW YOU APPARENTLY RIDE A HONDA WITH A HARLEY STICKER ON IT. Do have a nice day.

Never heard that one I’ll have to use it sometime. However my 57 Pan Chopper, 46 Indian Chief, and 37 Indian Junior Scout are all the real deal.

Since this is not a motorcycle forum and you are in the section that concentrates on muzzleloaders in media - nobody cares about your collection, maybe you could just hold your rude, uncalled for and unwanted rhetoric to yourself or maybe take it to facebook or tik-toc where people with your ugly disposition normally hang out.

Was she one of the kids? Hard to believe, but Joan Leslie (who played York's girl friend/wife) was just 16 years old when they made the movie. She said Gary Cooper gave her a doll as a present. Love that scene where they're sitting on her porch - such a pretty girl.

As to his age when drafted early in the war , I would bet there was no shortage of men at that ti early stage of the war , hell we did not t even have arms or material yet..
Just remember draft boards are local and his views were of a non violent thou shall not kill nature . There could very well have been some disagreement with his views in the community that accounted for his early in the war call up at the age 30.
When I rode up to the draft board on my 1948 HD chopper to register for the draft the old hens gave me disaproving looks and a lecture threatened to call me up then and there because it was the Monday after my birthday that was on Saturday.
As it turned out I joined the Army a year and a half latter.

Ugly disposition. The trouble with the country today is too many men with passive attitudes. A whole generation of wimps who think the Beatle’s song Let It Be is the national anthem. Take another toke and the world will be fine while flagrant criminals take up the reins of power. Yup I have an ugly disposition, and proud of it.

York actually tried to re-enter the Army during WWII. He was around 54 years old. Unable to pass the physical, he was still commissioned as a Major in the Signal Corps. He toured training camps and participated in bond drives.

It was a different era. Everybody did something. He was a great American.

I'm a huge fan of Sgt. York, for all the reasons stated by others above. The homestead, cemetery, and grist mill are there in Pal Mall, TN. I'm lucky because it is just north of Dale Hollow lake where my family has a house near Monroe. But every year in the spring (Last weekend of March) they hold a meat shoot in his honor. It is a chunk gun (over the log) shoot everyone goes home with meat. It has been a while since I went, but so wanted to this year. Sadly, I was recovering from spine surgery. Competitors traditionally wear traditional fedoras, suits or coveralls with a shirt and tie... and ladies nice dresses, (or some masculine)

Anyone interested in Hx and all kids should first see the movie, get to know his background and history a little better. Being thus prepared, make the pilgrimage to that area of North Central Tennessee. Do it at any time, but if you can at least witness the shoot along with the historic sites.. all the better.

On the way south to Pall Mall, from the state line on 127, is the Forbus general store... stop by and see their cigar Indians on the porch and get some fudge. After the shoot, go back north. At the state line use 111 from Static, go South towards Byrdstown, and get some fried catfish for dinner at the Farmhouse restaurant (Bob-Cat Den was a little further south, but closed 2019).
Then continue on south down to the Shell station and turn Right on Memorial drive. There you will find the Cordell Hull Homestead. Log cabin. He was the longest serving US Secretary of state. He had also been a Senator and a Representative. He was the person who spearheaded the founding of the United Nations for which he won a Nobel Peace Prize.
Take your fishing rod and Tent or trailer to stay at the state campgrounds at Dale Hollow. It truly is a beautiful part of the US with it's rolling hills. The world record smallmouth was taken near there. Smallmouth fishing is best at about the time the dogwoods are blooming. (end of April though May)
PS it's still in the Ohio River Valley. Dale Hollow (Obey R.) pours into the Cumberland which ends in the Ohio R.

Im headed to Dale Hollow in 3 weeks, for week long house boat vacation. I hope to swing by Cordell Hull place on the way back.

it aint just libs. Plenty of young republicans round here wont lift a finger as long as rich mommy and daddy are paying for everything, buying them boats and trucks and college and $1k cell phones. Then they cry that its not their fault when theyre caught drunk driving or raping some girl at a party. No morals/ethics isnt a political division. Its everywhere, just gotta look around you.
 
Its interesting to read about service during WWII. Just about everyone not qualified for active combat service were involved in some way. Former Heavyweight Champions Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney were commissioned in the Navy and taught Physical Fitness. Tunney had previously served as a Marine. Actor Robert Stack was already an accomplished skeet champion. He was commissioned into the Navy and taught aerial gunnery. And he convinced many of his skeet shooting friends to do the same.

W.D. Jones, who periodically rode with Bonnie and Clyde was doing a prison term in Texas. He wrote the War Department and offered his services to the Army as he felt they could "use a man skilled with the BAR." They were going to let him enlist until they discovered a bullet and fragments still in his chest and he failed the physical.

My own Grandfather, too old and too many kids to enlist, inspected 1911A1 pistols for Remington-Rand.

I have been retired now longer than I was in, but I would still offer my services if needed. I would most likely fail the physical at 61, but I know I could recruit or instruct, freeing up a young guy to go to sea.

I just wish we could remember that we are Americans first, last, and always and find a way to break this political and racial division and anger among us. Our country is worth the work it takes to maintain our liberties and freedom. I fear the future and the direction that we are headed.
