good afternoon all,
I need a extra long rang rod for my David Pedersoli 50 cal PA long rifle. I went to range to shoot her for the first time and my brass rod was too short even with my extra long cleaning Jag. I looked around my local gun shops and having a difficult time finding the best one? Please point me in the right direction.

thanks Koz

Also easy to make with a 48" 5/16 or 3/8 steel rod, a bore guide and a rod tip with an ID that matches the OD of the rod.

I went to the local metal dealer and bought a length of 3/8" brass rod, then cut to 48", threaded the end 8-32, then turned a 3/4" dow rod for a handle. Drilled a 3/8 hole in the end, got out the gorilla glue, glued them together. Four years later still using it, and have enough for another is needed.

You did what I did! I have been using my brass rod since the 80ties! It is made in two pieces. It was made in a machine shop and home projects were a no-no in two pieces it was unobtrusive and easy to get it out. I will never put a steel rod in any of my pistols,or rifles! Nothing as hard as the metal in my barrel goes down the bore!

I will need one to finish my load development for the up coming hunting season.

I made a steel range rod from a piece of 4 foot long 3/8 inch rod from Lowes. I drilled and tapped both ends and installed a brass T handle on one end, and a brass cleaning jag/ loading tip on the other. It's a little tough to get the holes centered on the ends, but a tiny bit off center doesn't hurt as long as the jag is larger than the rod diameter, and you use a muzzle protector.

This is a hunting thread how?

@Zonie please get well soon.

Broken, please take a deep breath and 2 valium. The world won't end because a relatively new member (>100 posts) posted a non hunting issue in the hunting thread, and I don't think the moderators need notification. No harm, no foul.

Once upon a time we were all new members.

I agree. To a point. It seems like there is a lot more similar stuff lately.
In days gone by this would have just been quietly moved by a moderator.
Maybe we can all try just a little harder to think about what we are doing while Zonie is recuperating.

You really do need some sort of rod when" hunting" with a muzzleloader.... ;)
Anywho, I just make my own using brass rods bought from online metals.com I just made one for a long gun and started with 3/8 rod 48 inches long, drilled and tapped one end for a jag and the other end for an old glass doorknob.
