"Man, I need to get some better powder. Do you know where I can get better powder?"

"Honey, have you seen my nipple wrench?"

Imma turn it over to y'all, now.

Too many people today use the following phrases out of context with absolutely no idea as to their true origins and meanings:

"going off half-cocked"

"like a flash in the pan"

"loaded for bear"

"shooting your wad"

"lock, stock and barrel"

Sadly, that seems to be what passes for a modern education gets you these days... seemingly public schools these days only 'teach' enough for pupils to pass state-mandated testing to ultimately achieve more taxpayer funding, all the while indoctrinating unwitting and unthinking entitled students with contemporary propaganda... too many parents send their offspring to public schools merely for 'daycare' and for free meal handouts (which should not be the school's function!) and to receive their participation awards for doing nothing!

Easy now, wife retired after 38 years as a High School teacher. She was the History Dept chair for years, taught AP and Dual Credit classes (College credit). She was known to be very tough but fair. Her students had to WRITE coherent papers properly for a grade.

I retired as a heavy equipment mechanic and went to work at the same school. For almost 4 years I had the In School Suspension class. Where students that get in trouble go. Turns out I like the students, especially the knuckle heads. No phones, stay awake and we get missing assignments done.

Never met a teacher that did not care for their students or taught something not useful. The administration tried hard to make a suitable environment for learning. I can be as critical as the next guy, they did a good job.

I don't care who you are, you are not going to fix a broken home, drug using parents, absent fathers or abuse in a few hours a day.

The good news is the students are normal teenagers. They will be the ones who work like we do. They are the soldiers we have in the Middle East right now. A few will be the doctors, pharmacists, mechanics, engineers, and others we depend on. Yes, there will be the criminals as well, but a very small percentage.

So how did a thread about muzzleloader phrases morph into a rant about the public school system? My children went through the public school system, and both are very successful in their careers. If you do like the public school system, then don't send them there.

Well that came outta thin air! 😹

Got one for ya, wife and I went to a gun show together, whilst at the gunshow we purchased some .530 roundballs which asked her to put into her purse so we wouldn’t set them down and walk off with them. Anyhow when I got home she stated “ don’t forget your balls are in my purse” ..... 🙄🙄😕
