I take it there are no preference points for years input and not drawn in Maine?

Minnesota was like that, when we actually had a huntable moose population. A young lady in her 20's from the lease I was part of put in and drew the first year, then proceeded to get a really nice bull (approx 60") with a rifle. While happy for her, there are individuals that had been applying for a lifetime, are well up there in age, and never have been drawn. Doesn't seem right somehow. I guess it doesn't matter now in Minnesota anyway.

Best wishes to those who drew in Maine for a successful fall hunt! :thumb:

Yes, you accumulate points if not successful. I drew a resident tag during the second season way back 1982. I have been applying as a non-resident the past 10 years or so. My wife laughs when I call it my annual donation to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

I apply in New Hampshire as well, but the prospects are even less there. I may apply in Vermont. The deadline there for applying is June 30.

I have struck out twenty years (+) even with LOTS of preference points stored up. The odds are just too great. But I will stay in it! I was drawn as an alternate ten+ years ago but could not make the date provided. Fortunately they kept my preference points intact.

Wait 'till next year!!!

I got drawn in 2014 for the first time. I let my oldest son shoot a bull as I had shot a few as sub permittee. I have been on lots of good moose hunts. The moose herd numbers are pretty bad compared to what they used to be, you have to work for a moose now. I believe the odds are better for an out of state hunter. I wasn't drawn this year either.
