I got my BIG .50 Cal on Steel at 1,200 YARDS this morning, 3 Consecutive Hits on my 20” Plate 👍

Bullets, I chose my 610 Grain BACO Grease Groove for this Shoot (Mold i had Made) I cast these of Certified 1-20 Alloy, Lubed with my “Modified“ Bullshop NASA Lube

Ranged with my Leica 1600B Rangefinder, and Google Earth Shot in Yards, This is a TRUE 1,200 YARDS

A look from my Rifle, That is a VERY small Target with Open/Peep Sights for this Kind of Distance, My Entire Target (White Backing) is ONLY 3 Ft By 3Ft Square. My Steel Plate is 20 inch Square, 1/2” AR500 Plate, It weighs 60 Pounds

My 3 Consecutive Hits, Shots Number 3 & 4 are Very visible, 5th and Final Shot Just Cuts the Right side of the Plate

5th and final Shot up Close, Cuts the edge of the plate, exits the Cardboard Backing

What I could find of my Bullets, Even at 1,200 Yards They stil hit with SERIOUS authority!! They are Splattered to Pieces

Lewis, good work. Can you tell me what powder you used, and what charge? Also, the fellas shooting LRML at Oak Ridge almost all use platinum-lined nipples for this work, as the pressures are considerably higher than when shooting conventional round ball loads. Are you using a special nipple? Great idea to mount that Rice barrel in a TC chassis.

I use Swiss 2F, 100 Grains of it in the .50 Cal Rifle in this 1,200 Yard Shoot above. Swiss 2F is my ALL time Favorite Powder, I have tried Swiss 1.5 as well, Accuracy was GREAT, But i was consistently getting “Slight“ Hang fires, This due to it’s Courser texture, It simply doesn’t Flow through the Fire Channel of my Sidelock Muzzleloaders near as well as 2F Grade.

I also use Platinum Lined nipples that i get from BACO (Buffalo Arms Co.) But in this Particular 1,200 Yard Shoot i was using a New, Cheap Treso/Ampco Nipple. I get great life from them in .50 & .54, The Smaller the Bore the harder on Nipple life, I have a 32” 1:15 Twist .358 Bore that i shoot 340 Grain Bullets in, This thing EATS a Nipple up in 12 Shots, BRUTAL on them! I absolutely have to use a PT Nipple in this .358 Bore

These Rice Barrels are FLAT OUT Awesome shooting Barrels 👍 Unlike some Muzzleloader Barrel Steels such as 12L14, Rice BULLET barrels are “Match Grade” 4140 Chromoly Steel, Left Hand Twist. Even the Breech Plugs are CNC Machined from Solid Bar Stock, instead of Cast. Rice makes a “Drop in” for the TC Hawken & Renegade, Which is what i have, 3 of them to be Exact

Once again, awesome shooting! I hope Rice is smart enough to name that barrel configuration after you and engrave each one accordingly. You've certainly earned a sponsorship in my opinion.
Remind us what powder/ charge/primer your using. Thanks

Rice is an awesome Co. They don’t owe me anything. I am just an independent Guy that Shoots, and loves their Barrels (Along with my Green Mountains) I do this stuff for Fun/Enjoyment

Swiss 2F is my ALL time favorite Powder, I use CCi #11 Percussion Caps, The caps i used in the Shoot above were Just Standard CCi #11s, I normally use their Magnum Version, But with Swiss Real Blackpowder ignition is IMMEDIATE with Either

I’m at 40 shots from my .40 and the last group fired was pretty bad. I’ve been using an Uncle Mikes stainless in that one... Luckily I have a spare platinum BACO nipple ready to go.

I bought this set of Cheap, yet precise Pin Gauges to keep track of Flash Hole Size

What started out as a Brand new Treso/Ampco Nipple on the Right (New one on left to compare, they start out with a tiny .028 Flash Hole) here it is after just 12 Shots in my .358 Bore, 32” long barrel, 70 Grains of Swiss 2F Powder pushing a 340 Grain Bullet, Like i said, these Small Fast Twist Bores EAT Nipple Flash Holes up FAST, Platinum lined is the ONLY way to go with these. On the contrary, I have well over 50 Shots on a New Treso/Ampco in this BIG .50 Cal, 100 Grains of Powder, pushing 610 Grain GG and 615 PP Bullets at 1,360 to 1,370 Fps and the Nipple is Stil Going STRONG.

Lewis, my set of those pin gages cost me $32.00 online. The brand name escapes me at the moment. I purchased them for checking out both inline vent liner wear, as well as sidelock nipple wear. For touch hole diameter wear, I am going to have to purchase the next larger set of gages, because most touch holes are drilled out to 1/16" diameter (0.0625") and that's where this set of gages stops at.

P.S.
I purchased them on your recommendation.

Excellent, excellent, excellent shooting ! I knew you would, and could do it !
i would only want to be either behind you, or alongside yelling “Go ! Go ! Go ! Definitely not on my knees at 1200 yards facing you, praying “No, no, no...”

Enjoy the sunshine, it’s all yours ! Nobody can throw shade on you. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
