Just finished this one by request, I’m happy with it, simple yet functional. The horn is translucent towards the base plug so one can keep an eye on the amount of powder You have. It was a fun project..it’ll be on its way to its new owner this week

I normally file to shape, then sand with 220 grit paper, then polish with 0000 steel wool. If you dont get the surface of the horn nice and smooth, no matter what stain you use it will always be dull with no shine.. then I stain with Fieblings leather dye dark brown, black and light brown all sorta mixed up. The base plug I paint flat black, then rub it back with steel wool. Then I seal the whole shebang with beeswax and rub it in. I also blued the steel pins and the metal staple.. rub it all back and it’s all good to go.

Thanks all! I enjoy making the simple horns, however my next project will be a lobed horn and will be gussied up a bit. I got this horn semi shaped and a base plug semi ready from a member of another forum. I’ll take pictures and start another thread if anyone cares to see the progress. I’ll be making it for myself and will most likely be my last horn for a while.
