Anybody tried a magnetic mount red dot sight on a muzzleloading rifle? I'd like to try some night hunting for coyotes but certainly don't want to mount anything permanently on one of my guns. I'm wondering if they stick well enough to stay sighted in for follow-up shots? I hate to use such modern technology on my old guns but don't know what else to do.:dunno:

I’ve used ‘rare earth’ magnets to hold iron sights on a barrel while figuring things out with a gun before permanently mounting them, but would not rely on them for a hunting situation. Imagine your solution may be found in how you light up the target and sights. I believe @Okie Hog has posted how he hunts hogs at night. May want to look up his posts (if I am correct that it is Okie Hog).

I exclusively hunt hogs and varmits at night with my muzzleloaders, i use texas boars pro hunter lights on 10 foot tripods, i get about 60 yards wide and 75 yards long, i paint my front sight white and use a headlamp that has a low red setting when animals come into view i quietly click on my led red head lamp which allows me to line up the sights the pro hunter sights makes the night come to life

I've been wondering the same thing. I have a Vortex Venom that I would like to mount using the existing holes for the rear sight. Seems like such a light weight sight with a cheap RMR type mount would stay put just fine with a single screw and a magnet.
