Hello all. My dad (Larry) was shooting at the Niantic sportsman's club by the shore and met a bunch of flintlock shooters that do woods walks and such. Just wondering if it was any of you fellas? Would love to have a group around Connecticut. I see quite a few people on here that actually have CT as their location. -Larry (jr.)

I am a member of the Niantic Club, and was one of the Black Powder shoot founders. Over the past 20 years we have held monthly shoots from Oct-April either line shoots or trail walks. We have about 20-25 members that shoot, and sometimes have a few guests. All are welcome to our shoots. There is usually a $10.00 entry fee which includes a fireside side lunch. Prizes are not generally awarded, we are there just to shoot and have fun with fellow black powder shooters. We allow all types of muzzle loaders, but we have a powder charge maximum of no more than 80 grains, and lead projectiles only. I don't know how Covid is going to affect this years shoots, so you will have to watch our web site for info. Hope to see you there.

Awesome! Great to hear from ya both. Id love to check out Niantic whenever there is a shoot next. If Covid doesn't affect anything I think you will surely see me there. Do people usually dress up?

Period dress is encouraged, but not required. Some of us really get into the spirit of the event.

Thanks for the info Grimord! Magungo we should head down there if things get going. Brokennock and i were trying to get there last year so he may be interested as well. Period dress would add to the fun.

The shoots are lots of fun with a great bunch of guys with all levels of experience. There are a few shooters that are very competitive, (too competitive for my liking) but we do have fun. We get together at the end of the shoot for a great hot lunch and conversation. We also practice throwing hawks and knives at our target board. Some of our shoots are also set up for the option of shooting a rifle or handgun. Most of the targets are biodegradable s, or gongs with an occasional paper target to break ties. Hope to see you at our next shoot, when and if we have some this fall.

High Woods Sportsmen Club has shoots on Sept 27, Oct 18, and Dec 6. The last one is free with a donation of a new toy worth $10 or more.

Wittenberg Sportsmens Club has shoots on Oct 11 and Dec 24.

High Woods is a trail walk, Wittenberg is along an access road and a bit easier of a walk. Both clubs are only about 10-15 minutes off of the Thruway. Both have websites with more info. I'd double check before trekking out in today's unpredictable times.

I belong to the SOUTH COUNTY ROD & GUN CLUB , in EXETER, RI. about 15 miles away from your club. we have a lot of muzzle loader shooters. and I for one have shot primitive long stick bow on a trail walk at your club & have shot muzzleloaders at the club, but not a trail walk,

I lived in CT until about 4 years ago before I moved to VA. Blue Trail Range In Wallingford used to have an active bunch of BP shooters. Not sure if they still do. If anyone does get a regular shoot going in CT please post it here. I go back to CT a lot and would bring my flintlock.

No black powder shoots or groups at Blue trails that I know of. It is on the other side of a mountain from my house. Where in CT/Virginia? I went to school in VA
