My son gave me a TC Hawken 50 cal last week and I've joined to find out more info on the gift. I've never shot BP before and in fact have rarely shot a rifle much since returning from Vietnam, hand guns is a different story.
Welcome to the forum. :)
You will find that shooting a black powder muzzleloader is great fun. Part of the fun is, with moderate powder loads like 60-70 grains of powder under a patched lead ball the gun does recoil but it isn't the kind of kick modern rifles have. Rather than the sharp, often painful "slap" modern rifles give to your shoulder, the recoil is more like a hard push. That makes shooting multiple shots a pleasure rather than a pain.

Where in Florida are you? I was in the Navy at Jacksonville and lived off base at Green Cove Springs (home of Lynerd Skynerd) and had a blast back in 1972. it was God's country back then, hate to guess what it looks like now.
Hey Treestalker, Nokomis, about 30 miles south of Sarasota on the Gulf. Born and raised here 75 years ago and compared to many parts I've visited and lived in it's still God's Country. I was in the Army from '66 to '74, Helicopter Scout Pilot with 7/1 Air Cav. I was the Hunter in the Hunter/Killer Team.

Welcome from Tennessee! I had a Brother that was 1st Air Cav. 68-69.'

Thank You for your Service... Sir, and Welcome to the Forum.

I just joined up and was skimming through and saw Nokomis. Wow, you live in one of the most awesome places I have ever been to. We really enjoy Nokomis and stay there every chance we get in the motels in the beach. Got introduced to the area when we did the Shark Festival. Covid has made us stay home.
