Here is a nice rendition of a .54cal Harper's Ferry flintlock rifle. Made from Rifle Shoppe parts and signed in the barrel channel "made for Peter Schmidt by P. Olanie". Over the years I have seen a few guns by this maker but have not been able to learn anything about him. I would place the quality of workmanship at a 7.5 with a 5 being a talented hobbyist and a 10 being John Bivens. All in-letting is crisp and the lock is smooth and a good sparker. Does not appear to have been shot much. There is some wear to frizzen face the bore is clean and pristine. Metal surfaces are nicely browned. Barrel length is of course 33 in. length of pull is 13&3/4in.
I am asking $1325 which includes shipping anywhere in the CONUS it is legal to ship to.

Do you have any information on the barrel / rifling specifications? There seems to be rust on the inside of the lock from the picture. Is that the case or is it just the photo? The exterior of the barrel browning seems inconsistent and blotchy? Or is that also the photo? Thx!

What you are seeing on the lockplate is actually oil there is no rust although it does look that way I hadn't noticed. I don't see what you are referring to regarding the browning may just be my old eyes. In any case the browning is smooth and even on all surfaces. The rifling just from observing appears to be a slow twist I will research and see if I can get more details.

Thank you sir. Pictures can't always be trusted to reflect the actual condition ... as we have seen in the media recently!

Boy isn't that the truth. I did some research rifling twist is 1 in 49in grooves are deep somewhat in excess of .010.
