I have a pound of FFg 777 that I am wanting to try simply because I want to try it out. I have plenty of real BP so please no comments there. I also use CCI magnum # 11 caps as well as the Winchester magnum # 11 caps. I am trying to save the real BP for my Pedersoli SXS flintlock that I have customized. I am wanting to shoot a BP substitute in my caplocks for this reason. If you have experience shooting 777 and cleaning it out please chime in. I am also curious about shelf life. All my powder is kept in a gun safe.

Thanks,
George

I have used it for target shooting with a caplock and my 1858 revolvers. I don't see a big clean up difference or after effects like rust so I am thinking its ok to use. However I used it on an elk hunting trip in Washington and had the herd bull in front of me at 30 yards and it did not ignite. My cap went off but the 777 did not. I kept my rifle (TC New Englander) dry, did not bring it in at night so condensation was not an issue. I changed the powder and cleaned the gun daily. I fired off 2 caps in the AM before I loaded to make sure the flash channel was clear. It took firing two more caps to get it to go off. Would never use it again for hunting but a fail to fire target shooting is not a big deal. Good luck.

I use it exclusively in renegades hawken patriots n new englander shotgun. Easy soap and water clean up. I’m sure to get it dry and I oil bore with rem oil. I use hot shot nipples and I do pick the nipple after every couple shots just to be sure. Been good for me

That's a heart breaker of a story.
(Have had no-booms twice hunting. Once turkey and once deer. :()

Yep, I still see that bull and will never forget his lucky day. When the cap went off he looked right at me and then jumped the fence in front of him which was the reason he stopped broadside to me at 30 yards in the first place. I was ready for him with my gun resting on a fence post when I got the pop fzzzz. I used up the 777 I had in my revolvers and have never purchased a substitute again.

Please note that Triple Se7en is 30% potassium perchlorate. It is this, found in both Pyrodex and Triple Se7en, that causes its residue to be a bit more corrosive than black powder residue. So be prompt and fastidious about cleaning when done shooting. ;)

I use it in my revolvers, no problems. This is to conserve my real black powder for my rifles.
No place to buy the real stuff here in north Texas.

Triple Seven is more powerful than BP by 15% so try reducing your load by 15% then adjust as necessary unless you are at the max load, then do not go up. I find less fouling than BP, cleans with water the same as BP
