I would like to know what diameter was on original T/C maxi-ball. And has anyone used a Lyman #454616 maxi-ball mold. The original T/C maxi-balls and T/C mold are no longer available. Thanks Dave

I don't know the actual diameter, but don't really care since I never had any luck getting them to shoot good groups. I had much better luck with the old Dixie hollow based min's. But they are no loner available either. The lyman improved mini seems close in configuration. When Dixie stopped carrying their mini's I made a mold to make my own and never looked back. I suggest you try the lyman improved mini's.

Mine is .458 but they were made by different manufacturers at different times so there could be a slight difference especially when Lyman made them. They tend to use their cherries too long and as they get worn down they cut smaller.

A bullet sized to 451 with a lee push through sizer is a perfect fit to my TC 45 barrel. What has worked very well is a Lee 452 255 grain for the 45 long colt. Cast from pure lead and sized.

don 't have a .45 tc but the lyman .50cal maxi ball mold I have produces a bullet that fits exactly like the Thompson center maxi balls you buy in 50cal. for my hawken. i'm more than satisfied with their mold.

I don't have one to measure. In my 50 the front driving band was larger than groove. The bottom band was a push fit. The middle slightly larger. In your 45 given a .450 bore and 0.008" grooves, you would need a front band of 0. 466". The bottom, 0.450 and the middle about 0.452.

Accurate Molds lists a 46-240A. IT looks about perfect. You can tweak the spec sheet and he will make you whatever you want.

You may be able to find a vintage TC mold too.
