My rifle loves the .015” good tight weave blue stripe pillow’s ticking from Jo-Ann’s.

Running low, I went last night and to my horror, it was all sold out. All they had was the very thin stuff.

Anyone known a good source for REAL ticking that measures about .015”? Thanks all!

better results on paper and for fouling control with the ticking.
I get my ticking from JoAnn's myself...
I found the red and white was thick enough, which is good as if I'm around other black powder shooters, I seem to be the only guy with the red striped ticking, which helps me to pick out my fired patches for inspection from everybody else who uses plain cloth, or blue striped ticking.

If you're really in a bind for some and can stomach the thought of buying precut......CVA sells precut round pillow ticking patches (unlubed) that are close. I find they measure about .0175" uncompressed with calipers and I get .0155" when I squeeze the calipers hard.

Have you tried any other fabric stores in your area? There may be more than one JoAnn's. Certainly other fabric stores will have ticking.

Of course I use the #40 cotton drill cloth found in the utility section. (Which I see you have found and tried.)

You might be able to find some .018 denim at Joann's. I'm not sure if they would have it but worth a look.............watch yer top knot................

You could try Hobby lobby or Handcocks in Vegas. Also don't remember the name but on Charleston and Decatur.

The wife tells me there is also another Joannes in Henderson.

Another place to look is in the artist supply stores. They sell painting canvas off the roll unsized. I have found it at Meiningers ranging from 6 to 12 oz.

Perhaps a dumb question, apparently the blue stripe ticking is different than the red stripe?
The main difference is the color of the stripe. There may be variations due to thread weight dueto a different source. That's why we measure our patch material at the fabric store after we determine its 100% cotton. When every one else is shooting blue stripe patching, it is easy to find the red stripe patches.

For my T/C .50 Hawken I've settled on a red-striped mattress ticking from Jo-Ann fabrics linked below. Using .490 Speer balls and a light swipe of the fabric over a cake of beeswax/olive oil (4:5, about the consistency of Chap Stick) it takes a series of thumps/pushes to seat. Accuracy is good. Patches (cut at muzzle) come out in a condition that they could be reused. This fabric mics at .012".

BTW, the ladies at Jo-Ann's have been very nice and patient with me. Before settling on this fabric they accommodated me with quite a few samples that I had measured in the store, then took home to test.

According too my measurements....My red tickin is 0.015 and My blue ticking measures 0.018..

Both shoot equally well out of my gun,.. I like the red for shooting woods walks as it loads a little easier when the bore becomes fouled. Allowing a few more shots prior too wiping.

I normally wipe every 3 to 5 shots , depending on the conditions.
