This is an excellent 1960's-70's reproduction British infantry hanger made by G. Gedney Godwin the Suttler of Mount Misery. These swords were used by British and American forced in the F&I period as well as the Revolutionary War.

Unlike the reproductions on the market today, the hilt of this sword was cast from an original sword and is more delicately done. One of the features that sets this hilt apart is that the heart shaped guard is asymmetrical -- the portion that protects the palm side of the hand being larger than the portion that protects the finger side (see 3rd photo). This is how the original hangers were done, and fits the proportions of the hand perfectly.

One other thing of note -- the two side branches of the guard were not attached to the heart shaped base when first cast, but were silver soldered to it. This is not a repair -- it is how the sword was originally manufactured.

Overall length of the sword is 29 1/4" with a 23 1/2" blade. There is a grind mark at the hilt end of the blade where a previous owner removed the makers mark. The scabbard is in serviceable condition -- stitching is intact and no dry rot.

Asking $195.00 which includes shipping in the continental US. May also consider a trade in part or in whole for a smallsword.
