I have a 50 Cal CVA rifle, Barrle was bulged due to over load or not pack correctly, Whats your thoughts on having it drilled out to make a smooth bore? Im not sure how to check the inside for expansion other then running a bit down it to see if it bites or not? any ideas or suggestions? besides ordering a new barrel.

Don't just run a drill bit down it. A deep hole with a standard bit will be very rough as gun barrels go.
It will be done on a lathe by a machinist, he wanted to reheat and press the barrel back to its original shape but Im not a fan of quenching a gun barrel after heating it back up. Im not sure what he can drill out on the lath as per bore size. Any suggestions?

I would think that the metal has been weakened(stretched) in that spot. Once it has been stressed I don't see how it could be strengthened by pressing it back to shape or boring out the rifling. A new barrel or possibly sleeving the weakened barrel to a .45 would be my two choices.
Bobby Hoyt can probably sleeve one for what you will pay the machinist.

Can’t speak for you but, I like me enough to not take the chance on boring out an already compromised barrel just to save a few bucks. Get a new barrel or at the very least, look to having your bulged barrel sleeved instead of bored out.

I live in Canada. Finding a barrel to purchase in Canada is tough. I inquired about the process to purchase from USA. It’s fine for me to purchase and bring across. But there are rules state side that don’t allow me to purchase the barrel.

I’ll take the advice and skip the idea of boating out and wait to see if I can find one. One of the board members gave me a few leads to look around here.

What keeps you from buying a barrel? Barrels of any kind are completely unregulated in the US.

I wonder what kind of rules there are against buying a BP barrel. Most states and the federal government don't regulate BP parts.
The don't regulate any barrels where I live or at the Federal level. Other than MAYBE short rifle barrels. But a rifle barrel? Nope.

I talked to a customs guy directly. He said any part for a gun that a Canadian buys for export there are forms to fill, and likely will be denied even if I fill out the paper work. I assume if I bought it and kept it in the US I would have no issues, Its just taking it out of the country that I would be breaking laws.

The Federal Govt in the U.S. does not consider any BP parts to belong to any type of firearm. Gun is not a legal definition. The Feds consider it a firearm or not a fire arm. BP parts are not a firearm part. Customs guy is full of it. Just order the barrel and it will be sent to you. My son in law in Montreal gets BP stuff from the US all the time as he builds MLs.

I don’t know how the feds are, states may also have some regs. New York ain’t Texas. I would check before entering.

On every website I have been to for muzzle loading parts they state they do not ship outside US

I found one. They say it’s legal to ship to Canada as long as it’s not a kit or complete. Barrels were fine. However the conversion and shipping put the costs to high.
