Same thing here. Just acquired it and cant mount peep because of tang inlet.. mine also came with an inspected by number and name. Sent it back saturday
what did they say too you about the tang inlet?? going too call wed thur and see what they are going too with it if they send it back without fixing the tang it will go right back..

They just said write a detailed description of problem and include in box with gun. They supplied me with a USPS shipping label at no cost to me. I requested a new stock cut properly and told them I dont want junk wood

Should have gotten a Pedersoli traditional hawken hunter flintlock. Take a look at that gun!!!!! And only $160.00 more than the lyman. I'm getting g one and offloading the lyman when I get it back

I would think they would just replace the stock.Lyman has really hit new lows.I remember when they really used to take care of their customers.Chargin you to send it back is a major slap in the face.Make them reimburse you. They should have sent you a prepaid shippin label and a box.
This ^^^...
I bought an older NIB GPR off Gunbroker last year that needed some in-letting work for the barrel, but it wasn't nearly as bad as this example.

Look familiar.?????

no called them thursday the person i talked to sayed they got a load of returns needs to be upload in the computer... might get it back before hunting season starts..

Looks like a dealer got a deal on seconds from the manufacture. I passed a deal in the mid 80's to purchase a lot of 150 CVA's that had chipped stocks, broken springs, and severe inletting problems. At the time it wasn't worth the price of the metal works. It consisted of rifles and shotguns.

Some years ago Lyman had alot of seconds/specials on their rifles for some pretty decent prices on their site.Everyone that I talked to was happy with em and the imperfections were next to nuthin. That,s when they had good QC.The rifles they are sellin now wouldn,t even make their bargain lot back then.

the QC on my great plains is real good.. 2004 maybe is the year i got .. the deer stalker is made in 2019?? and it is junk.. my traditions deer hunter looks better..

Agreed. Mine was made December 2019 and passed inspection by one of their employees. Stained junk wood with pathetic inlet work.. Embarrassing at best.............What a shame. Losing a ton of business

Sad to hear this. I have one made more than 10 years ago, and it is made very well. I shot it twice and put it away. I should get it out again. Not so historic, but a nice rig to drive deer in the mountains. I have the factory peep, and that is very handy.

That's too bad......not acceptable at all. I have a Lyman Deerstalker I got 23 years ago and its top shelf. Well built, real walnut stock without a flaw and it shoots like a house a fire. Has taken many a deer and placed or won many a shootin' matches.

I wouldnt even think about getting rid of it. It was my first flintlock rifle and it's been a very special gun in making many memories a field.

Seem like when they had the 16 AML fold down rear and the 37 ML white bead front sight that the were well made and real walnut stocks, and when they started to use the fiber optic ones ,everything went down hill.

Have had a few GPRs, flint and percussion, factory finished and kits over the years. The last two have been kits, and both showed very poor craftsmanship, primarily gaps between metal and wood requiring pieces of wood and Acraglas to fill. But they were accurate once assembled and shot. The last one (and likely the last one I will provide a new home to) was a NIB kit missing the frizzen (it was taken by the original owner for a TC lock) that I took on a trade. Decided I would install a L&R RPL replacement lock rather than invest $30 in a frizzen (which I have since found at a gun show in an ‘any part for $1’ box), which became a minor project of its own to install, but once installed was a definite upgrade from the original Lyman lock.

Ultimately, will steer clear of Lyman guns unless I hear things have changed quality wise or one heck of a deal presents itself, understanding that ‘some assembly may be required’.
